I made a little gallery for the alpha models still found in WoW today. I used WMV to gather these pictures. I'm surprised to say that these models have a lot of animations, albeit some key ones like kneeling or sitting. Though i believe the ones we have for those are fine as it is. The real important ones are the standing and so on.

Luckily some old school models still in wow share the animations of pre alpha character models. Such as http://www.wowwiki.com/Targorr_the_Dread for the orcs and a human NPC with this kind of standing pose http://www.scrollsoflore.com/gallery/al ... tman01.jpg

I wonder how the dwarves would look with their original animations. Basically the goblin anims on a dwarf model.

How do I know which bones are corresponding? And will I have to swap each bone or is that what the port all button's for?

I'm actually trying to figure out how to use this tool. So far I was able to load both models, a matter of getting both the .m2's and .skin's in the same file as the .exe, but then I am clueless as what to do with swapping the animations from model 2 to model 1.

It has something to do with the bones, correct? But what I don't understand is what to do with them. For example, if I were switching the animations of a blood elf to that of a night elf, I'd load model 1 as the blood elf and model 2 as the night elf. But then what? : l

Any help is appreciated, I know this is kind of a dumb question. Thanks anyway!

You mean ... You'll port the animations?

Or even better ... You'll convert the models?!?!? :0

Would porting the animations from alpha work in wotlk? I'm really not that interested in the actual model, I just want different standing animations. I feel as if the Orc model, though slight in difference, has a better feel to it, along with the human standing animation. I'd love to see the troll's animations as well, they have a better stance IMO.

One man's junk is another man's treasure. Maybe years from now when I have a clue about model editing, I'll start the converting process.

Apparently there are no tutorials on how to do this. Still scouring the internet for some sort of guide.

I have a .mdx though, not a .obj ?

Sigh, noob question, but how come I can't open my .mdx in blender? The first step speaks about exporting the model to wavefront .obj from a 3D modeling tool, but I can't even do that? o.0

Er. After some googling it seems I need to convert the file into a .3ds to make it work. I'll look around and see if I can get answers. I'd appreciate help though! Thanks!

EDIT* On second thought, I don't think this tutorial will help me with what Im' trying to do. I think the .mdx from WC3 and the .mdx from WoW Alpha are too different to be able to convert them both the same way.

This works with WoW alpha models, yes? The mdxtom2 lazy converter's link isn't working. I'll try google, but could you reupload it?
