General / Re: What tools to use
« on: August 24, 2015, 11:44:53 am »
I'm not using an awful lot of tools at the moment. But mostly because I don't have an awful lot of spare time to invest.

In alphabetical order:
ADT Adder - Mostly for when I'm creating new maps.
CASCView - For when I'm in need of files from WoD or another Blizzard game.
Futa - It's a giveaway.
GruulMe - In my opinion the best WDT editor available. Works with Cataclysm and Pandaria features as well, not sure about WoD.
Modelviewer - Well, not really a worldbuilding/editing tool, but useful nonetheless.
MPQ Editor - A giveaway as well.
Noggit - Duh.
Taliis - I have it on my PC, old habits die hard. Don't really use it anymore.

Several converters as well, WMO, M2, BLP. Nothing special there.

Just realised I currently don't even have a decent DBC editor...

@Stoneharry

Your work is always awesome bro, that looks amazing.

How could others do that? want to try out some stuff!

What do you mean? If you know how to program and spend 10minutes familiarising yourself with the basic API then you can easily do most of the scripting I do.

If you mean play it, it's not an open server yet. Status can be found on the website: http://www.lightsdawn.net

What do you need done in terms of worldbuilding? Just out of curiousity.

Couldn't care less.

If I'm interested in a person, it's because of his work, not because of the color of his username.

Claims to be the best are easily made. Show us/the internet actual proof of work you've done and let us judge. Neither flaming nor blaming will do anything or anyone any justice. But up untill the point where actual content is shown that you or your team have personally created you can't blame the people here for being cynical.

Once you've shown your (team's) work, your audience will judge and give feedback. When you claim to be the best but can't proof it (or are unwilling to show it), then (no offense) you're an idiot.

Showoff - what you are working on / Re: [PROJECT] WarScrolls: First War

It looks pretty good for people who are relatively new to WoW modding! The use of objects is good. But as said, see if you can improve on the terrain shaping and texturing.

Keep it up!

The issue is not the (lack of) tutorials, it's the lack of (motivated) people. We haven't seen a lot of interesting newcomers (no offense). It's not the lack of tools, it's the availability of (free) tools for a lot of other games/engines. WoW is simply not interesting enough to mod.

Random / Re: Is there a lack of content in WoW ?
« on: July 03, 2015, 03:03:24 pm »
There's certainly no lack of content. But most of it is outdated and not really rewarding (besides achievements/gimmicks/transmog) for a character at max level. Tanaan Jungle is pretty OK, I don't mind doing my stuff there everyday, but it could be more engaging.

Pffft, pessimists.

While I have nothing to show for, let's just say that I'm studing Aztec, Mayan and parts of Inca(n ?) architecture for a project I'm about to start ;).

I love the way you make the mountains. I wish i could create maps like that. Quite blizzlike. Unfortunatelly i can't even raise terrain correctly lol.

It looks cool but I'm pretty sure that's a remake of an already existing map...
I doubt there are people who can actually texture mountains like that...

Don't think so, doesn't look all that hard to create tbh. It looks nice nonetheless.

Garrisons are spawned serverside. The terrain is in the game files, but the building coordinates/spawns are all done serverside. You'll have to place them yourself.

Just my two cents.

The dialogue in that cinematic was amateurish and I cringed listening to it. The cinematic itself is cool though if a little robotic, but it's not "impressive"

I think it's soundfiles from WoD, but alright.

Cheers, while I've always been able to (batch) convert M2s, I was too lazy to get going on WMOs. Thanks for the update ;).
Ahh that's awesome(about your own m2 converter), and glad I could help with the wmo thing. :)

Well, it wasn't really my own. My brother does some coding stuff for his job, I just told him the things that had to change in files, we did some testing and got it working. It was nothing major ;p. Mostly used Mjollna's converter as a base.

Just wondering, I recently had to get myself a new PC, as my old one flatout died, does anyone happen to have a (torrent)link for a proper 3.3.5(a) client? I told myself that WoW-modding wasn't worth it anymore but I just can't resist.
