So, recently Blizzard released a lot of really beautiful 3D items from the new raids, these items have small 3D features added to them, but are essentially higher resolution BC armors:

Hunter: [ Invalid YouTube link ]
Shaman: [ Invalid YouTube link ]
Priest: [ Invalid YouTube link ]
Warrior: [ Invalid YouTube link ]

Because of their exact likeness to older armors, I'd like to begin the process of backporting the Legion armors from live to 3.3.5, then replace the old armors with these new ones.

So instead of getting the old low-res armors dropping from BC content, we can get these new armors dropping from BC content.

Does anyone have any idea how someone would begin this process? thanks.

"Retro-Porting" / [Question] Project Ascension Backporting
« on: January 05, 2017, 02:06:44 am »
Hey, I've not talked on this forum in a while, a lot of real world stuff like University and such used to quite frequently post on 1.12.1.

I love Project Ascensions basic premise, I believe StoneHarry actually works on it, and he is one of the (if not, one of the most established) modders on this forum.

Project Ascension is basically a 3.3.5 progression realm (starting at vanilla, but with all the issues introduced in the expansions) it allows you to begin classless, and through regular leveling you can create your own unique class. obviously this impacts the game in some very major and exciting ways.

Other features include:
- NO two faction system, it's entirely FFA outside safe-zones, factions exist within your guild and party only
- deaths are very similar to runescape in that you drop gear when you die.

In short, a Mage/Shaman hybrid is possible, or a Druid/Shaman, or a Mage/HolyP or Hunter/Mage, the combinations aren't even limited to two classes either, you pick any abilities you like.

Personally, I loathe 3.3.5 and I'm sure there are a ton of people who similarly hate 3.3.5 otherwise 1.12.1 would be  much less inviting than it is, and I want to try to begin the process backporting some of the elements to 1.12.1, in my eyes, the superior version.

My main question is, is anyone ALREADY undertaking this project and would like assistance or anyone that would be interested in starting this project with me?

Is anyone on the dev team (StoneHarry?) on this forum that could tell me why 1.21.1 wasn't considered or explain why it's not in development when Nost is perhaps the most successful pserv of all time.

[edit]

Also, over the christmas holidays I decided to write up a nice guide for aspiring 1.12.1 modders, it's not complete yet, it's fairly comprehensive, but I plan to release it Soon(TM) probably after new-nost releases so you can repay me in SILVER.

"Retro-Porting" / [Release] [1.12.1] My GnM>HeM Swap.
« on: August 15, 2015, 10:10:32 pm »

Intro

This is my High Elf Patch, I don't like playing as Gnomes in vanilla, but unfortunately they have the best mage stats in the game, and I often play mage. I also think Gnomes are a really stupid race, and I have no idea why High Elves didn't exist in their place, considering Gnomes had no lore, and High Elves had tons.

This patch effectively removes all Male Gnomes from the game and replaces them with High Elves.

Obviously, there are some issues, I've been unable to resolve them. since the audience reaction to Legion pretty much proved this game is dead, I don't know if I really care to fix the bugs, but it is mostly complete. If someone points out glaring issues, I will resolve them.

What are the MAJOR issues?

ALL Male gnome players have huge chance to have facial artefacts (misplayed facial hair) this will severely affect your hair/facial hair choices.
Game runs slightly slower with the patch I've noticed, may be heavier on resources.

What DOES work?

ALL Male gnome Npcs should have no facial issues at all.
ALL helmets should work on gnomes (NPC/Player)
ALL female gnomes are unaffected by the change.
ALL gnome male sounds (including Mekkatorque sounds) have been replaced.
Modifed Race Selection screen to more fitting High Elf one.
Race has been renamed to 'High Elf' all mentions of 'Gnome' should now be 'High elf'

Why didn't you change the race selection image/text

That type of stuff requires a custom wow.exe with modified glues. I didn't want this to require anti-glue, since most people are idiots. Feel free to add it yourself, you edit one DBC file, use your custom wow.exe and you're done, I did it previously, but, like I said,.

Why not make a simple MPQ patch?

There's A LOT of modified files in this patch, it was much easier for me to not separate the patched files. That makes the file-size bigger of course, but 5gig isn't exactly crazy. Before you ask, yes, you do need to install all of the MPQ patches, if you just install one or two of them then you're an idiot.

Can I redistribute this?

No, if I find this on any site I visit, I'll ask to get it removed. This is only for Modcraft members.
However, if you resolve any of the major issues, then you have my permission (maybe ask first?)

Does it actually work?

Yeah, I have extensively tested this patch of mine and found zero errors or crashes. this patch works on Nostralius flawlessly, you will not crash if you follow my installation guide exactly.

Installation

Installation is really simple, basically:

1. Take ALL of my downloaded MPQ files
2. Go to your WoW/Data directory.
3. Make a backup of the MPQ's in case you want to revert.
4. Replace Blizzards files with my files.
5. Your Gnomes should now be High Elves.
6/. Reinstall the other patches you had, if any.

Where is the Link?

Message me for it. Not going to post it.

"Retro-Porting" / [RELEASE] [1.12.1] More Organised BakedNPCTextures.
« on: August 02, 2015, 11:17:01 pm »
Hey, this is a small release, but I'm sure some people might find some small use for it, I'll explain what this is, and why it's useful.

What are BakedNPCTextures?

So, when you perform ANY vanilla model swap, for instance GnM>BeM your gnome NPC's will always be affected by your clients BakedNPCTextures as this is the file where all of the gnome NPC textures in the game are held. Obviously, the old gnome BakedNPCTextures do NOT automatically update alongside the M2. You are always left with a new model, and the old NPC textures.

Although there are guides that allow your NPC's to maintain their old Race model.  this is for a swapper who wants a FULL race conversion for NPC's.

ALL of your new Npc's will look something like this after a basic M2 Swap:

This problem isn't that easy to resolve. Blizzard has modular textures that are combined together in a single DBC file for player textures.

However, sadly, Blizzard has "BakedNPCTextures" for NPC's. which basically contains the NPC's facial, glove, feet, chest and leg textures as a single "baked" .blp.

So, what's the issue with Blizzards files?

The main issue with BakedNPCTextures is that blizzard has put some kind of obfuscation encryption on the file names and they're stored in no logical order.

If you wanted to find all of the Gnome Male textures in the game. you'd open up BakedNPCTextures and you'd see rows upon rows of unorganised files that you can't really organize by file name, you would need to essentially organize your files into a hierarchy before we can really accomplish anything here.

As you can see, these 7000+ files have great potential be a colossal pain in the ass.

So, what's the solution to the problem?

The solution is sadly, manually sorting through each of the 7000+ files by hand. And so I did just that. I sorted through ALL of the files and simply placed them into a corresponding race/gender folder, which took me roughly 20 man-hours to accomplish.

What has this simple process achieved?

Now if a model swapper wants to find all of the human NPC textures for vanilla, they simply need to use my file which contains each race organized into a neat hierarchy which they can use for batch processes.

The alternative is spending numerous hours themselves. Since I organised *everything*, if they want those troll files, or those goblin files, they're sorted into their own folders too, for easy, immediate simple access.

Then you can do awesome fixes, like this:

<Unfortunately the link was dead, if you have the files, please send them my way! thanks!>

"Retro-Porting" / [QUESTION[ BC M2 ---> Vanilla M2 Conversion?
« on: August 02, 2015, 09:27:46 pm »
Currently looking for a way to convert BC M2 files to Vanilla, as BC M2's do not translate into Vanilla easily.

Anyone know of a conversion tool?

"Retro-Porting" / [1.12.1] [QUESTION] NPC Greeting Sound files?
« on: August 02, 2015, 08:16:07 pm »
Hey guys.

So recently I've been working on a more complicated swap than I usually do, I don't plan on releasing the file at any point, but I plan on making a guide for this stuff so other people don't need to ask questions like I've been doing.

the ONLY thing I still have to do is change NPC greeting messages, then I'm pretty certain I have a complete Race to Race conversion, with no issues.

The sound files I'm talking about, are sound files like "Hi, how are you?" "Hello" "Be quick about it" etc.

Anyway, I can't find the Gnome greeting messages, and I can't find the MPQ they're in.

Anyone have any idea where these are? checked various MPQ's already, will continue looking, but having a hard time here.

[edit]

found them, they're always in stupid places.

"Retro-Porting" / [QUESTION] Speech MPQ for Burning Crusade?
« on: July 31, 2015, 05:05:43 pm »
I'm able to modify quite a lot of sounds using the sound files from Burning Crusade for my model swaps.

But I can't seem to find the Burning Crusade equivelant of the Speech MPQ, if it even exists.

The Speech MPQ is important because it contains error and emote speech for characters.

Anyone know where this is?

[edit]

found it.

Hey, looking for the DBC file that contains the text for Gnomes, I assume it's a DBC file anyway. Here's the text I'm talking about. If it matters I'm on 1.12.1 atm.

Anybody know?

"Retro-Porting" / Various Issues [1.12.1] Blood Elf conversion.
« on: July 30, 2015, 01:00:41 pm »
I'm converting a Blood Elf to vanilla to as a Gnome replacement, going to turn it into a High Elf.

Have four major problems I'd like to resolve if possible. These are probelms I can't really find any solutions for despite searching for solutions.

First problem is this:[RESOLVED]

1) I edited the blood elf eye by converting the BLP to a PNG (BLP2PNG)
2) when I converted it back to a BLP file, it looks like this, really weird. Obviously shows up like this in-game.

No idea how to stop the conversion process from doing this. I think the problem boils down to the compression of the PNG file. and sadly I don't really know how to stop the file from being compressed.

[Solution] Turns out editors like paint.net and Gimp save png's in a strange way, Photoshop was much more effective, especially when I found the BLP plugin.

Second problem is this:

1) I have blood elf textures, but the gnome textures show up in game, they're directly linked to facial hairstyles and hairstyles. where a hairstyle has a specific facialupper, and facial hair has a specific faciallower, no idea how to turn these off, no idea what dbc file they're contained in (if any)

2) The most obvious solution is, remove the offending textures -- when I edit these textures to remove the texture (thus it won't show up) this happens, this is also what happens if I remove the link to the texture in the DBC file.

Seems like the game uses a default texture or something. Don't know how to solve this.

Third problem is this: [RESOLVED]

1) Gnome Male and Gnome Female share hair files, this means I get stuff like THIS

Wouldn't be a huge issue, but since gnomes run around and stuff all the time, yeah, problem. Also the gnome hair files are still coming from somewhere.

[solution] simple fix, duplicated the hair texture files and edited all female entries in the DBC file to the new file, then I replaced the old one. This means they no longer use the same files.

Fourth problem is this:[RESOLVED]

Gnome NPC's still use default gnome textures, instead of blood elf ones, no idea how to fix this one. Technically it makes no sense for the model to change and the texture to remain the same.

[solution] after countless man-hours, organised all the BakedNPCtexture files and consolodated them into easy to manage race sections, then I could just duplicate all of the gnome textures, find a suitable replacement file in my Burning Crusade client and there we go, resolved. Not absolutely perfect, but almost perfect.

If anyone could help with any of these issues, I'd be grateful, I'd also learn a lot for future swaps.

"Retro-Porting" / Lich King Replacement?

"Retro-Porting" / I need the 2.0.0.5610 client.
« on: March 04, 2015, 04:09:46 pm »
Hey guys, so I think I kinda know how to perform race>race swaps in vanilla thanks to a friend (was planning on making a guide when I had free time)

but I need to find the 2.0.0.5610 client so I can use it's MPQ's

It's the BC friends and family alpha and it's 100% compatible with 1.12.1.

But I can't find it anywhere apart from one russian site, and when you try to download from the .iso it crashes with an error like "144 expected 148"

Anyone know how to resolve this error, OR have a WORKING 2.0.0.5610 client?

Thanks.

Level Design / [Question] Outland Overhaul?
« on: February 18, 2015, 02:46:43 am »
Figured I'd ask here, any of you guys know anyone that's currently working on an Outland overhaul?

What I mean by this is, pretty much taking all of the new assets available in WoD and backdating them to BC.

I don't know, I just thought It'd be amazing to see a re-imagined Outland that's actually IN outland, with updated textures, and perhaps quests.

I honestly think a re-imagined BC mod might cause many vanilla private servers to update.

"Retro-Porting" / [Question] 1.12 Race to Race swap.
« on: February 18, 2015, 01:42:56 am »
Hey There Modcraft.

This is my first post on this board but I'm a regular on both Ownedcore and AcWebs boards.

Background

This has been a huge problem for a really long time (Years), and I wondered if any of you guys could help me out.

You see, everyone always 'says' there's a Race to Race swapping guide for 1.12.1 (The Vanilla version every vanilla server uses) YET on every website there doesn't seem to be ONE complete, cohesive guide that contains all of the tools (Functioning links to tools) as well as an in-depth guide on how to perform race swaps from A-Z.

A while back, some really cool and generous dude gave me a Troll Male>Blood Elf male MPQ over Ownedcore before messages were soft-deleted, (I forget his name otherwise I would credit) yet he didn't explain HOW he made it, what tools he ACTUALLY used and in WHAT ORDER he used them, so I was stuck with the file I wanted, but NOT the knowledge behind how it was made, this also applies to many releases across multiple sites, with swappers releasing content and never explaining how they achieved it. (For instance, Ownedcore has a FemTroll>FemBelf, but despite people asking, nobody knows the process behind it.

The Problem with Race Swapping in Vanilla

Every time someone makes a thread like this they are soullessly redirected to the 'many' other (frankly, non-existent) threads that have:

"achieved this before, it's not hard,  "

That's not fun at all, especially when people like me spend countless weeks ctrl+f'ing forum threads for ANY kind of explanatory post which often turns into a fruitless treasure hunt for something that seems incredibly rare.

Vanilla swapping is NOT the exact same as 3.3.5 swapping as many of the tools are incompatible and many of the filetypes are different, but the thing is, it is more than possible, and BC and Cata models/races CAN be backdated to vanilla, the problem is, like I've said, there's no real guide, just scraps of information.

What I actually want to do is, convert Male Gnomes to High Elf males from BC and Troll Males to Blood Elf Males, I'd pay for the MPQ, but I really want to know how to MAKE them instead, and I'm sure others would too.

In Short

Does ANYONE have concrete knowledge on how to perform a race swap in 1.12 vanilla that:

Uses 1.12.1 files included with the base client (for instance, Gnome>Human transfer)

Uses BC alpha/live/beyond files directly compatible with 1.12.1. (for instance, Gnome>Blood Elf transfer)

Uses Files that are beyond 1.12.1 compatible, and require to be converted. (For instance Troll>HDorc)

Thanks guys. :)
