Chronicles of Azeroth - Dawn of a new Era
« on: February 09, 2011, 02:35:41 pm »
Chronicles of Azeroth is a brand new expansion pack (or eventually will end up being one since is already 500+ mb of size and so far is mostly maps)
[center:2ig186gc]Azeroth Map (i'll add soon Kalimdor map too)[/center:2ig186gc]

[center:2ig186gc]Lore[/center:2ig186gc]
Five years have passed since the battle at Icecrown Citadel.. that ended into a stalemate...
Nobody understood clearly what happened... the citadel just got covered in an unpassable mist...
And while the paladins of the Argent Crusade wait... for years in the frozen Wastes, the war rages on Azeroth...

Stromgarde has been rebuilt, with the desperate fight of proud heroes the power of this once great nations has risen again to unite the shattered people of Lordaeron under one flag...
The scourge, withdrew massively from Lordaeron, has been pushed back and is now shut in their dark holds.. .Scholomance... Plaguewood... Stratholme...

But a new evil has begun to threaten the world... the Burning Steppes and Searing Gorge got twisted and deformed by the dark will of a new entity known as the Dark God, earthquakes and tremors have torn asunder this land...  the Blackrock Orcs sought refuge in the badlands and the forces of Stormwind do their best to push back the flow of burning soldiers that comes down from the lands now known as Darklands.

Kul Tiras has recovered completely from the damage of the last war, and his fleet has been fully refurnished and rebuilt, now ready to wipe out the Orc race or die trying...
... but the Orcs won't stand without fighting! as the war rages they sought new allies in their brothers now refugees of Blackrock and Dragonmaw, and with their joined help they build the new city of New Mammerfall, to oppose the growing power of Stromgarde.

The Amani trolls have been renuited too under one flag and once again the goal to rebuild the feared Amani Empire is now real...
... as the Amani trolls joined back to their old allies, the horde, the Blood Elves decided to leave behind both factions and shut themselves in Quel'Thalas, studying a way to restore the Sunwell, Silvermoon is running out of fel energy as Kael'Thas has been defeated and their time is running short...

New forces are raising... old hatreds revived.. new and old heroes will guide the people of Azeroth to victory, or glorious defeat!

Too much text, more pictures. (Also to see what has already been done and what hasn't)
From the worldbuild showoffs it looks really great also very close to Blizzlike which is of course good in this respect ;)

Awesomeness in a topic, even some screens that haven't been shown yet am I right? Can't really say anything constructive, sadly, as it seems perfect.

I really love most of the screenshots, you've got really original ideas and seem to implement them perfectly. Some of the architecture you put into new environments brings out new great sides in the design.
Besides being able to really design a map beautifully other BIG plusses, which make you much better than the average world builder are the facts that you retexture things and that your texturing doesn't suck.

There could be improvements in your custom geometry though, such as the roads should always be a little lower than their surroundings (creatures walk on them -> earth gets worn off / sort of eroded -> surface lower than rest) and the same thing with your patches of grass on brown earth. The fact that stuff like that feels real is because it is, but it's not because nature was having fun back then, it's also a sort of erosion, this time the real one, created by rain and wind: Lets assume there are slight hills where your patches of grass are and lets also assume that there once was grass everywhere. It rains down, the rain runs down on the hills but then gathers in the small valleys that will then become drains with a much bigger power, talking about erosion. Over the years they will cause more mud than grass to be in these drains, thus creating a pattern like the one you painted but with more visible hills where the grass is  :uno:

Now there's not much to say about the worldbuilding but I'm curious: you said there's 70% implemented already, what about npcs, items, quests etc? Did you add them? Did you spawn them? Because that's something that you really shouldn't underestimate.
I also always was like "nah, not much of a deal we'll do that in 1-3 days once all the other stuff is done" but actually a wise thing to do is have someone work parallel to you on that stuff.

Interface has been changed and new races implemented, and npcs are added as i make the maps
Besides, i don't make quests because in trinity is just crappy to do and i never figured out how, and after all aren't that needed for my project since is mostly based around player RP even tough i would like to have some scripter working with me

As it is, content would be organized following the region design and lore, but i can't tell much more for now

Eluo's Worldbuilding Thread probably contains everything you have to know about worldbuilding. You can find it here: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=26
