[RELEASE] [1.12.1] More Organised BakedNPCTextures.
« on: August 02, 2015, 11:17:01 pm »
Hey, this is a small release, but I'm sure some people might find some small use for it, I'll explain what this is, and why it's useful.

What are BakedNPCTextures?

So, when you perform ANY vanilla model swap, for instance GnM>BeM your gnome NPC's will always be affected by your clients BakedNPCTextures as this is the file where all of the gnome NPC textures in the game are held. Obviously, the old gnome BakedNPCTextures do NOT automatically update alongside the M2. You are always left with a new model, and the old NPC textures.

Although there are guides that allow your NPC's to maintain their old Race model.  this is for a swapper who wants a FULL race conversion for NPC's.

ALL of your new Npc's will look something like this after a basic M2 Swap:

This problem isn't that easy to resolve. Blizzard has modular textures that are combined together in a single DBC file for player textures.

However, sadly, Blizzard has "BakedNPCTextures" for NPC's. which basically contains the NPC's facial, glove, feet, chest and leg textures as a single "baked" .blp.

So, what's the issue with Blizzards files?

The main issue with BakedNPCTextures is that blizzard has put some kind of obfuscation encryption on the file names and they're stored in no logical order.

If you wanted to find all of the Gnome Male textures in the game. you'd open up BakedNPCTextures and you'd see rows upon rows of unorganised files that you can't really organize by file name, you would need to essentially organize your files into a hierarchy before we can really accomplish anything here.

As you can see, these 7000+ files have great potential be a colossal pain in the ass.

So, what's the solution to the problem?

The solution is sadly, manually sorting through each of the 7000+ files by hand. And so I did just that. I sorted through ALL of the files and simply placed them into a corresponding race/gender folder, which took me roughly 20 man-hours to accomplish.

What has this simple process achieved?

Now if a model swapper wants to find all of the human NPC textures for vanilla, they simply need to use my file which contains each race organized into a neat hierarchy which they can use for batch processes.

The alternative is spending numerous hours themselves. Since I organised *everything*, if they want those troll files, or those goblin files, they're sorted into their own folders too, for easy, immediate simple access.

Then you can do awesome fixes, like this:

I never played with NPCs but that may be useful in the future, thanks.
