Smooth terrain painting
« on: October 03, 2012, 10:49:16 am »
So I've been playing with noggit some more, trying to improve my terrain editing skills.

What's the best way to avoid lumpy terrain? If I use the method shown in some videos here (use large brush and slowly scale down) I always end up with lumpy terrain that's difficult to smooth back out.

Something that works extremely well for is using a SMALL brush with lesser print scale, kind of like Elinora works. Despite, it takes not just the knowledge of how, but also the experience in which way it is supposed to be. Practice becomes the master's art. Despite, you should try getting a concept first - what do you want to build, how do you want to build it and what could bring a good mixture of tilesets and doodads ?

Agree with Ascathos. Practice and small brush works. Though it needs a bit of patience :D

1. Use the linear tool
2. Bug in Noggit. If you start linear is selected in options window but is not realy selected. Just select an other option and reselect linear.
3. The brush should also not be to smale :) Else you get triangles.
4. Raise the ground a bitt heigher as needed and then use Flatten/Blur ro give them the last touch.
