Miscellaneous / Re: [question] adding skybox to my map
« on: January 29, 2019, 03:40:23 pm »
thank you for your answer schlumpf.

the client should see it, im packing it with my map.dbc and so far everything worked. there probably is some default skybox overriding mine, because i keep seeing the default azeroth one. im working with steff's premade folder system etc, although this map was made from scratch.

it shouldn't be underwater nor in any weather circumstance.

was not able to figure out what's causing it. even if i spawn a helper sphere ingame and copy its coords to the skybox (x36) im still not able to make it work.

Miscellaneous / [question] adding skybox to my map
« on: January 26, 2019, 10:42:41 pm »
hello fellow modders,

followed 3 different tuts on how to put skybox in my custom map, which basically all say the same + modifying dbcs isn't something i wouldn't manage. i used to swap skyboxes in the past without effort.

yet, i can't for the life of me get the freaking skybox into my map.

the way i did it was to "copy line to.." new id through mydbceditor, i set my map's map id and put the skybox coordinates to 0 0 0.

nothing ever changes ingame, tho in noggit, the light and the fog are changed correctly.

anybody?

one site back :"This is just in the model viewer, you can fix it with the "model control" control panel. In game is all oke"

Yep, the game works fine.

But is there a way to fix the WMV problem? Im trying to create some photos in it so that's why I wanna solve it. I dont remember having this issue like a year ago, using your models and the same WMV.

If i open the model control, I can check the belt box, but that only changes up my facial features to some predefined ones, so I cannot create a face of my own. Anytime I then try to change the face features or skin color etc, it reverts back to the bug without the belt.

Got any idea? Thank you.

Hello, first of all HUGE thanks for all the work. You are the MVP.

Now I keep having this issue with WMV (v0.7.0.1) where player characters are missing waist and some feet too. Any idea how to fix this?

It really depends on the situation and gameplay.

Some games have huge but somehow "empty" worlds, but it suits them.
This would be the example of Shadow of the Colossus (PS2). It has a huge sandbox-like world with only few detailed spots on the map, but all this makes them very remarkable, like ruins and forests where every encounter takes place.

I would agree with Amaroth on Left 4 Dead too. Sure it is linear-ish, but it makes a great use of the environment and puts the pressure on certain spots of the map.

And yeah, Skyrim for me, it was a breathtaking adventure to explore that beast for the first time (and 2nd, and 3rd,..) :D

Turned out those models were broken, but I've recently revisited the idea and successfully managed to rip and retexture the models. I'm willing to finish it up if people are still looking for this sort of thing.

Yeah sure please do :)

Many thanks for this tutorial!

Quests
Now that you mention quest contests.. That's actually something where i would join. Nice idea! :)

Me too, I love writing quests and story telling in general. Would be great :)

Contents need rules, topics and rewards, and obviously multiple of those. As always, be happy to suggest stuff, the more elaborate the better. Just like with the ranks. We still don't have any input on how to actually distribute special ranks.

Ofcourse, we can't go too far with the rewards, no one is investing money into this. Like I said, the contests could be used to create stuff for a community project and I think that being featured and credited in something like that would be enough of a reward for the winner. There could be some small rewards too, like forum badges or whatever (I've always liked colored names :D ). Thought I can't come up with something relevant right now.

The rules I think would be the easiest part.
I'm really inspired by Concept Art Sessions website, where you choose 2 or 3 tags and you just draw based on them. Something like that could be utilized here, tags and some simple rules would be given at the start of the contest and the competitors would create stuff based on them.
Sure some general rules should be there too, but that will come with time.

I like the idea of creating contests. They're great to show of the user's skills and hopefully will raise the activity of the community. :)

Exactly! It would be really great if there were contests in categories like Quests, Level Design, Model Edit etc.
The winner could be featured in a community project like Maruum was.

I'm in love with the red-to-orange color scheme

I can but I'm not inetersted in elven buildings from WoW. So, if you need something particular, please take a pic of the model you want to detach from there. I also have the full Darnass already done but it is converted a bit badly and I'am too lazy to reconvert it and upload here.  :)

I was just wondering if something like that would be possible. Wanted to extract some Darnassus buildings.
Any chance you are going to make a tutorial for this process?

Just don't get into a fight guys.

I was experimenting with different models, those are Howling tilesets and trees, but I came across Nagrand trees and AncOrc buildings and they pretty much fit in the Howling color scheme.

Those are just 3 ADTs with the same alphamap but different tilesets and models. The mountains are not finished, only played with them for a while to practice terrain shaping.

Maybe it all looks a bit off because I haven't changed the skybox, they all have the same one, but I'm going to change that in the future. Thanks for your opinion. ;)

Been messing around with different textures and models to look how they look together. Going to make a little island in this style. Still figuring out how to best handle alphamaps on the whole thing though.

Let me know what you think :)

The models stand out too much, making it look unnatural.

What particular image are you talking about? I picked the models so they would fit into the scenery and I think they all do well. Are we modding WoW or real world? :D
