Patching question.
« on: October 21, 2010, 04:24:28 pm »
Hey. I plan to make a small automatic patching system for my wow client. So basically when I choose, players will automatically download the updated mpqs and such. I noticed some of this is also editable in the xml/lua files. Ill keep playing with it, but I was curious.

Anyone know exactly how Id go about doing this?

Custom launcher would be the best option I think.

I have also been playing around with this. If you set your patchlist and then you will need a website seperate from your realmlist to download all patches. I have not yet found everything. I am still looking into it.

Process to implement this:

Patch the BlizzardDownloader.exe to point to your address for each locale rather than blizzard's.

Set up web server containing patch information and download settings - see what the executable points to (search for strings).

Set up torrent file (MUST be a http torrent - not a udp torrent - if you do not do this then the tracker will fail).

Torrent downloads to WoW folder - torrent file is saved in cache folder.
