Emerald Dream Expansion: The Emerald Nightmare
« on: November 16, 2011, 06:19:57 am »
Hey guys! Many of you might know me as AZO, well I got bored... So here I am. As you might know, I'm bat shit stupid about Emerald Dream. I decided to channel my stupidity in the form of server-side editing this time. Enjoy. I'm going to be documenting my progress as well as my plans for this expansion idea. This is what I've got laid out right now. It's all subject to change, but yeah.

I haven't completely finished documenting all that I have done, but this is what's on paper as of now. Enjoy guys. Give me feedback. Ideas and suggestions are more than welcome.

With the Cataclysm ending... and Deathwing slain, Heroes start finding that Deathwing was merely a pawn in a much grander scale of things.  Players are asked to stand at arms once again to face the terible force that lies ahead; N'Zoth. N'Zoth is the third old god that has been put in World of Warcraft, and is probably one of the most horrific. Trapping Malfuron within the dream, and residing at the bottom of Vash'jir, players must level from 85 to 90 in search of a way into the Emerald Dream. The 5 leveling dungeons will be less emerald dream oriented and the story of N'Zoth and the Dream will not take place until after players reach level 90. Once hitting 90, players will embark in an epic quest line that leads them straight from Lorader through all the other bosses, and into The Emerald Dream to face N'Zoth. The quest chain is HUGE, and by the end of it you will receive a few titles, items, and tons of gold. (within a balanced limit of course) The Naaru return to guide players through the new dungeons, and to seek help from the new heroes along the way. There will be a Naaru in both major cities to guide players through the new content.

Upgradable items will be introduced with this expansion, as well as a new type of item. Artifact. Artifacts are much stronger than legendaries, and can only be obtained through upgrading items. Items available for upgrade will have "Primal" infront of the name, and will require several materials found off creatures in raid settings to upgrade. (More info on this to come!)

Another new feature is a diablo style of rarespawn. Rarespawns in dungeons will have elemental enchants such as Fire Enchanted, Frost Enchanted, Poison Enchanted, etc. These rarespawns will appear in place of normal mobs and will appear just like those mobs, except they will be larger, they will have <Fire Enchanted> or a similar name underneath them, and will also be granted added abilities based off of the enchant. These creatures will also be immune to whatever enchant they have, and will drop extremely good loot.

New spells will also be introduced to players upon reaching level 90 via class quests. Dungeons level 86-90 will be reachable via a quest teleporter in both major cities (Stormwind and Orgrimmar)

New levels, new areas, new dungeons, new raids, new items, new spells, new features, new quests. Welcome, to the Emerald Nightmare.

After the devastating cataclysm, many of the goblins have found refuge in Azshara, claiming it as their own land. Pushing back many of the creatures that once called this autumn paradise a home. However, the struggle for Azshara is far from over. Once the alliance heard word of the attacks, they sent several troops to aid the creatures and to turn the tides. The goblin race, with their new allies the Horde, now wage war on this once civil land. Unbeknownst to either the Horde or Alliance, beneath the very ground that they battle on lies an ancient relic hidden long ago by Malygos and the Blue Dragonflight. With the fall of Deathwing, The Blue Dragonfllight have come out of hiding, and lead an assault on both the Alliance and Horde. Both factions cease their quarrels and unite to stop the Blue Dragonflight. Knowing very little of why the dragons are even there...

Information:
With C'Thun's defeat, Grand Arch Mage Criminon has taken refuge in the fallen Temple, and teaches the Ethereal the ways of Fire, Frost, and Arcane in return for infinite amounts of power and resources. Criminon, although not really an enemy to either the horde or alliance , does not take well to intruders of his keep, and seeks to vanquish those who trespass in his hollow halls. This is a one boss dungeon, and there is very little trash. I wanted players to be able to finish it quickly. Who knows, you might even make an inconspicuous friend along the way.

Outdoor three: Karazahn Crypts

Bosses (4) Drops Tier 14

Information:
Although the Lich King has been defeated, many of the scourge he once controlled lay dormant under the halls of Karazahn. With the recent earthquakes brought on by the Cataclysm, many of the walls holding the scourge off have now crumbled, leaving them to ravish the lands before them. Karazahn Crypts will mainly focus on add farming, as the bosses are more of rarespawns. This will be a world pvp area, so both the Horde and Alliance will have to watch their backs. Consider the bosses to be an extra reward for those who farm. There will also be rarespawn chests heavily guarded by swarms of undead, along with a few secret rooms. One of the rarespawns might even uncover how to obtain Ashbringer... however, this could just be a rumor. There will also be a decent quest hub in the center of the crypts, where the Argent Crusade has taken refuge to fight the swarms of scourge.

----------

Indoor one: The Nightmare Chasm (pre emerald nightmare raid)
Bosses (5) Drops Tier 15
1: Reth, the Endless Nightmare (Bone Skeleton)
2: General Xixzes (General of N'Zoth)

Information:
Following the corruption of the Old God, most of the wildlife and vegetation in these most sacred caves lie withered and deformed, merely slaves to the god. Those who were not swayed by the Old God's presence live in fear of outsiders and intruders. Attacking anything that could present a threat to their ultimate survival. It is up to you and your friends to cleanse this once beautiful chasm and seek to help a Nymph that lies at the very heart of the cave.

----------

Indoor two: Emerald Nightmare (N'Zoth)
Bosses (5) Drops Tier 16
1: Juroguar (Corrupted Dragon)
2: Buru'Gor (Elemental Giant)
3: Protalis (Corrupted Dragon)

Information:
With the return of the Old God, and wars raging between druids and corruption, you must accompany Ysera, Malfurion, and Cenarius in hopes of destroying the Old God once and for all. Along with slaying some of Ysera's guardians that have been swallowed by the power of N'Zoth.

It consists of 3 dailies, each daily gives a badge. After collecting 20 badges you can move to the next quest hub. Quests consist of two collecting quests, and one emoting quest.

Information:
Quest hub 2 is the final quest hub. After completing a similar style of quests (20 badges) players will be allowed to enter The Nightmare chasm. Quests consist of an escort quest, an add killing quest, and a boss killing quest.

----------

The Rift of Aln

Quests (1)
1: The Rift of Aln

-Creature Spawns - DONE!
-Scripts- DONE!
-Game Objects- DONE!
-Story- DONE!
-Waypoints- DONE!

Information:
The Rift of Aln is where N'Zoth was pushed back by Malfurion. Ysera requests that after collecting 10 badges off bosses in Nightmare Chasm, that you meet with her there. She explains more of the story, and this area is only used for show. You can not move in it, and you are suspended on a rock with invisible walls. It looks fantastic though, and I didn't want to not include this area.

----------

Karazahn Crypts will be a non-requirement dungeon found behind Karazahn it's self. Players will face many of the scourge they thought were wiped out when defeating the Lich King.

After killing Lorader you are told to grab an incantation from criminon in order to shield yourself from N'Zoth before entering the Dream. After obtaining that item you can return to criminon's dungeon any time you feel like. You are then sent to the emerald canyon to help druids restore peace to the emerald dream. (quest hub 1) after doing dailies for so long, you are allowed to go to the Emerald Nightmare (quest hub 2), then you do more dailies. After a certain amount of dailies you are allowed to enter The Nightmare Chasm to raid there. Once completing The Nightmare Chasm, Ysera will let you into the final area of The Emerald Nightmare where you will face up against N'Zoth and Ysera's corrupted forces.

I know there are a lot of flaws with this code. I'll fix it later. Don't feel like translating it form it's original forum coding yet. :[ Enjoy the pictures!

Thanks! I'm really enjoying making this. There are currently 50 new quests for this, and they keep growing. Haven't added in any raid or dungeon quests yet. xD

This is seriously NICE. But by server-side modding do you mean this is done using gameobject spawning? That'd be pretty intensive on the server... Either way, majority of server-side spawning tends to look ugly and out of place, but this has been pulled off quite nicely. Well done :)

All server-side. No client edits. Doesn't bog the server down at all.

Am I the only one who noticed that this section isn't for serverside showoffs...? o_O

@OnTopic: Well, I've never liked serverside modding, but despite my hatred against it, those edits doesn't looke bad :p

Thanks

It's up right now @ http://www.emeraldnightmare.com

I partnered up with 2DGreenGiant from MMowned, and he got me a server for it. Unfortunately it's going down though due to money issues. So check it out while you can! If you create an account, just message me the name of it and I'll GM you and give you tele coords to check it out.

Also, I've attached a trailer video for it!

Man, I get picked on so much for that voice!

In other news, I'm pretty proud of my story lines for this. They really help me make the dungeon after I think of the story. Although some of the game objects look stupid in Azshara Crater (Just to lazy to delete the bad ones) It's probably one of my favorites story-wise. Just because this one entertains me I'll post it. I've come up with a lot more story-wise than I've really posted on these forums, but here:

Malygos hid an artifact centuries ago under azshara. That's what Azuregos was doing there all of these years. After Deathwing's defeat, he was able to make his move. Azuregos has never thought Kalecgos should be the new aspect, or even the ruler of the Blue Dragonflight. Leading similar minded members of the Blue Dragonflight, he wages war on both the alliance an the horde in order to summon the artifact to slay Kalecgos and take his place as the Aspect and leader of the Blue Dragonflight. Little do many know that Azuregos is actually being controlled by N'Zoth. The very same thing as Deathwing. Puppeted by a General that is hiding in Azshara Crater (Faceless Boss) he blindly charges into battle with little to no reason at all.
