World of Warcraft: Into the Twisting Nether

[paragraph:2atr1fae]We are a project set up back in the earlier parts of 2013, and after several stages of development, we are intending to open our floodgates for a few testers, builders and model editors! Our intent is to breathe new life into a decrepit old game's fan-base through jumpstarting the entire franchise and propelling a millennium into the future! With the Alliance and Horde race lasting centuries, the arms race was passed and the space race came to a glorious end some decades ago now! With Azeroth left almost uninhabitable, the climate changed to an unseen landscape and the fleets assembled, the fight has been taken to the next battlefield, the final frontier, into the Twisting Nether![/paragraph:2atr1fae]

The Background

[paragraph:2atr1fae]The Alliance Republicans remember their past as does the Warsong Pact - both were once peaceful and docile people living upon their realms without war, without hope for conflict, but that has all changed. Since the touch of evil landed upon them, their people have been thrust into a never-ending war that has outlived the mortals and even the once immortal beings of the dragonflight. As the race to eradicate the other faction continued until the meaning of the conflict all but died out, their homelands were both consumed by their rage.

Now fragmented, the fight continues. With leaders in the cold ground and new ones taking the fight for a new generation, each faction saw out change. The Prophet Velen led his people from the Alliance who grew into vindictive and heartless men, whilst the night elves left to protect a realm that were under threat from a resource race between the King and the Warchief. Sense had left the souls of the people, but the passion for war had never left. The Protectors of the Realm took their bow, as did the Lordaeron Pact from the old Horde, who had wanted to serve their own interests rather than that of the Horde as a whole. Even that friendship did not last, and, without the Banshee Queen, the Forsaken were upon the brink of mindlessness.

The Lich King passed, and the Scourge went rampant. However, the Alliance had combated them with true tact, obliterating their existence with explosions and liquid fire pouring from dwarven fighters. The Cult of the Damned went into hiding, and has forever presumed to be nothing but legend. Yet conspiracies remain that their existence remains even now, lurking in shadows, infiltrating and awaiting their chance to turn the land under their spell. The Alliance saw out the Wrynn Bloodline, and a new king rose to the challenge, from the bowels of genealogy. His successor brought forth an elected council of men, whilst he was at the front of the battle against the Horde. Overtime, the elected officials took more and more of the monarch's power, draining each successor of more of their abilities until the abolition happened.

Yet the Forsaken, on the other hand, saw no such abolition. Their salvation was in sight, and their new Lord and Savior had appeared before them: the Demon Lord Varimathras. The Goblins and Gnomes continued their race to provide the best technological progress to their factions; the Goblins learn their lesson from Area 52 and crafted an ingenious interstellar vehicle - a nether-rocket. Yet the Gnomes found old tomes and information from their old allies, and stole tips and tricks from the draenei before designing their own contraption of immense stature. The elected Grand Admiral demanded that such a fleet be constructed, and the resources race between the Republicans and the Warsong Pact began.

With most of the realm consumed with liquid fire and radiation, life became rarer and rarer until species were made extinct and the landscape altered. The climate became hot some areas and frozen in others, an unusual phenomenon that baffles scholars even now to what has caused it. As the gnomes provided the fleet, the Dark Iron Clan stole several plans for the ships and began their own construction. Now, their clan exist as pirates among the stars, plundering the holds of ships and vessels across the Nether, whilst the Forsaken - ingenious - cheated, finding fuel from a depraved source unknown to all but Lord Varimathras and his Apothecaries.

With the Protectors of the Realm not willing to allow the Republicans and the Pact to decimate other planets as well, the Draenei constructed ships for both races to take to the stars, to prevent further chaos in the world. However, as the war was taken to the next battlefield... a dormant nemesis of the mortal races laid in wait. As Azeroth tore itself apart... the Burning Legion awaited the time that their enemies would consume themselves, and that time is now. The Twisting Nether is open for exploration and combat and travel and adventure... but their demonic denizens are preparing a welcoming that neither faction ever expected.

The most unique private server of its kind is opening itself up soon - this is World of Warcraft: Into the Twisting Nether.[/paragraph:2atr1fae]

TMI: Screenshots

[paragraph:2atr1fae]The current progress has been limited, as most of the work put forward is planning and design work. However, we have some things to show - the Alliance Commissioned Explorer (A.C.E.) Brilliance is the gnomish exploration vessel that is going into uncharted territories. This is the first ship that will be open for people to use in about a week or so, and is a current work-in-progress! However, feel free to comment and take a look!

For those interested in joining either as roleplayers or developers - feel free to comment on this thread and I shall begin to get in touch with interested participants! We have a "role list" of characters required, and that shall be put in the next post! But for now, screenshots and lots of them in the future:[/paragraph:2atr1fae]

Memories of the Past: The New Millennium

[paragraph:3omsf8yq]After the Second War, peacetime had descended upon the denizens of Azeroth, and the Age of Chaos seems to be at an end at last. As the bastions of the Seven Kingdoms rebuild themselves to prosper once more, the vicious orcish incursion had broken free from the internment camps and now rebuild their armies in the wilderness of Lordaeron. With the shadows rising, the darkness revolting and death frequenting the kingdom's of men, the Age of Chaos has not yet ended. Now, we stand now upon the brink of destruction, for the Reign of Chaos has come... at last.

Memories of the Past: The New Millennium is providing one of the most unique experiences that has ever dawned upon private servers. After several months of development, we are nowhere near completion but we have begun the final push to see that our work is done soon. The Dark Ages of Azeroth

The War Upon The Citadel

[paragraph:q44rx4cx]The adventurers were dead, mercenaries powerful and true, summoned to the call of battle in the northern continent, destined to charge and vanquish the remnants of the undead, the Scourge that remained locked under the tyrannical reign of the Lich King, the fallen paladin, Arthas Menethil, infused with the demonic Ner’zhul. Yet the Alliance and Horde could not estimate the powers of the One True King, who slaughtered the Ashen Verdict and killed without discrimination. Those claimed had their souls ripped from their shells, and their corpses served as necrotic warriors on the field of battle; the Alliance and Horde’s fallen turned against them in a battle cold and calculating. Below, the Horde was ripped apart by the final move in the Lich King’s diabolical game of chess, the Forsaken illusion of freedom abolished and the sleeper cell nation was awoken by the call of the Lich King. Lord Tirion Fordring could do nothing but watch, encased in a tomb of ice.

Yet he broke free: a swarm of holy fire blasted the decrepit ice away, and he charged the Lich King head on, and the Ashbringer and Frostmourne collided in a moment of truth, in which the battle was to be decided. The Ashbringer failed, and shattered to the might of the Scourge and Tirion, amongst the pieces of his blade, was struck down in a final and merciless slash. As holy blood was spilled, the Scourge was revitalised and the Alliance and Horde were pushed back, fleeing to their capitals, to recuperate and to make the next move. With each second passing, the morale of the races had disappeared.

With the death of several valiant leaders, new men and women took their charge and changed the face of Azeroth forever. The True Alliance was united under the banner of Anduin Wrynn, the child king, amongst the respect of the The Council of Three Hammers and High Tinker Cogsprocket. Mourning the loss of Thrall, the True Horde came about as old clans joined forces, and a new and far brutish Horde was unleashed under the guidance of Garrosh Hellscream, Rend Blackhand, Vol’jin and Cairne Bloodhoof. As several races disappear from the major factions, political tensions are at the utmost high and the war between Alliance, Horde and Scourge is to be decided once and for all. Only one shall triumph.[/paragraph:q44rx4cx]

What are we?

[paragraph:q44rx4cx]The Dark Ages of Azeroth is a project set up as a small-time project that I was going to work upon during the summer as something to occupy myself. Needless to say, I mentioned the project to a friend of mine and we both got the project kick started, and began to sense that we could do something more than a project we might never finish. This was something that could be turned into a gamer's goldmine of nostalgia and creativity. We knew what we wanted. We wanted a balanced game, set in Azeroth that provided a new and original experience for both player-versus-environment and player-versus-player. Naturally, projects like this have been set up, to provide custom content but we don't want to bring about new races for the sake of new races, or new zones or worlds that we imagined. We want the True Alliance and True Horde from the original RTS franchise to make a return. That's what Dark Ages of Azeroth is about.

It's about revitalising a franchise, and gearing it towards the mature generation of players and ex-players alike, who both loved Warcraft I right up to World of Warcraft.

We never said it would be easy...[/paragraph:q44rx4cx]

Features:

  • True Alliance and True Horde - no more draenei, blood elves or Forsaken
  • Return of old allies - play as the Dark Iron, the Scarlets Crusaders, the Blackrock Orcs or the Ogres
  • Revamped classes - be a Champion of the Alliance, or an Earthwalker of the Horde
  • Azeroth retold - play through re-visioned quests from vanilla alongside completely new storylines
  • Cinematic experience - make choices that will reflect your impact of Azeroth
  • Retuned environments - raids, instances and game world encounters aren't simple button mashing
  • A more adult-themed Azeroth - experience political intrigue, the horrors of war and a real representation of Azeroth
  • Factions and Occupations - join the Westfall Brigands, the Argent Dawn or even a goblin cartel for a new experience and countless rewards
  • Specialisations - nine new classes with an unlimited combination of specialisations to suit the player
  • 100% Custom Content, from items to quests to gameplay
  • And this is just the tip of the iceberg!

Looking For:

  • Scripters [3/6]
Must be knowledgeable about LUA or C++; bonus points for both.
  • World Builders [2/5]
Must be creative and innovative; must have screenshots of earlier work.
  • Quest, Item, NPC Developers [3/6]
Must be creative and innovative; able to balance creatures and quests.
  • Model Editor [2/2]
Position has been filled! Feel free to apply, however! We're always open.
  • 2D Artist [0/2]
Must be creative and skilled in photoshop.
