Crash at Launch
« on: March 03, 2011, 11:43:31 am »
Is there a 'how to set up' forum post someone can recommend? I know what it's like- answering the same question you've answered 1,000 times and knowing it's been asked another 10,000 times...

Downloaded, made Directories, copied a clean client, extracted, edited the config file, launched... read the log file... searched the forum... made a desktop shortcut, set compatibility for XP SP2, added a second slash to the end of the path lines in my config... cleared the log... launched... read the log again... searched the forum some more. Made a forum post.

Computer OS: Windows Vista Ultimate x64
WoW Version: 3.3.5a (12340)
Noggit Version: Nogg-It $Rev: 104 $
Log File: http://pastebin.com/XFU8UjcU
Config: http://pastebin.com/fKPe5rjh

What am I missing?

No... no... I read the FAQ- http://modcraft.io/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=38. It's where I got the "set compatibility for XP SP2" that I mentioned in my OP. I've read the FAQ 3 times in 15 minutes trying to pry something loose, but still nothing.

But then me, being me, started to wonder... and sure enough there are TWO FAQ's... TWO!!!

Maybe someone might wanna add a link to the forum FAQ directing people to the blogspot FAQ... i dunno- maybe...

Seriously though... is there a "How to install" kickin around somewhere?

I found the part on the FAQ about extracting "locale-enUS.MPQ", so I extracted it. Now I have a folder named DBFilesClient... where does this go? WoW client root? client rootdataenUS? I've tried both and still getting the same error log.

So seriously... how to install doc somewhere?

Well, as all these bugs are already fixed in the current versions, I don't really care about those things. I just wonder, why Stephan wont release the new version as it is right now. It would remove 90% of the current bugs.

WoW-Client root.
This is not part of installing anything, its just a bug in that outdated version. Installing is "extract, start".

So where does that leave me? Give up and check back from time to time to see if 120 is up?

Then move it to wow/...
Just extract the _complete_ locale-enUS into /wow/.

Well, I spent some of last night looking around the results of some Noggit related google searches and re-installing WoW after deleting some registry entries. While I was looking at a couple forum posts I downloaded a couple Noggit's people had uploaded and linked. One ended up being the same 104 I already had so was of little real use to me. The other ended up being a build from October something of 20something. Noggit2003 I seem to remember...

Earlier today I had another go at it, and finally as a last resort 'clean-file-system-and-directory-structure-be-damned' approach I dumped the extracted locale-enUS.mpq, Noggit 104 folder and Noggit2003 folder into the client directory, Noggit104 died as usual I think. Surprisingly Noggit2003 allowed me to load a map (GMIsland to keep it small and simple),  however I was missing most of the UI.

As it stands I had to make new copies of the client folder and will be away from home for the next couple of days. So I suppose my next question should be this...

Has there been any recent thought/mention about the new version?

I plan to revisit this when I get home and haven't given up, I'm just kinda hoping that this "October Build" is a halfway between 104 and the new version.

Thanks.
