[QUESTION] WoW animation editing
« on: February 18, 2015, 06:06:52 pm »
Hello,

I've seen a lot of topics about animations and .mdx files, but I'm a bit confused.
First, many links are brokens and some tools are many year old...

But most important, I did not find a clear tutorial about editing animations?
I have 3 main questions:

- I want to use BE HD model for Undead, it works, but there is a mesh explosion when I sit, eat, read map, etc.
I suppose I have to edit something in the .m2 file? But I don't know what.
- How should I edit existing animations, say dances? I just want to edit the animation.
- Is there a way to preview animations? In Blender or another software?

Thanks in advance.

Only way to EDIT animations is with MDLVIS or if your somekind of hex editing genius.

If you want to swap animations with another model, you can do it with animporter or blender.

For this you just need to use animporter like Phucko1 said make sure you put the new anim files with the new model files when exported into the patch and I'd recommend renaming the bloodelf to something like BloodElfMale_HD and only having the new exported files there so it doesn't try to use other animations.

Yeah, but with custom HD model I don't think it is possible?
The new WMV doesn't take local files, is it?
Or I could use a trick to us old WMV by renaming files, but the textures look ugly!

For the old WMV all you have to do is have the charsections set for the new textures.

Also on the animporter doesn't seem to work with the HD models due to different bones and what not haven't really looked into it.

Ok, so here is what I've understand so far:
- I had to copy .anim files to use the BloodElf specific animations instead of the Undead ones.
- but since BE HD is not implemented in WoW 6.0.3, it seems some info is missing, maybe in the DBC, so the animations still explode, even if it looks a bit better.
- so I've tried with Human and there is no more explosion.

Now some few more tests:
- Replacing Male by Female is working, but I had to also copy .bone files (face animation), make some adjustments to the face UV mapping and replace face hair by empty textures.
- LOD still bugs. When you zoom out, the mesh explode a bit. Then if you zoom back in, some mesh problems may occur: loss of eye glow, small cape appearing...

I did not try to edit animations yet.
