[QUESTION] converting wcIII mdx to m2 large file.
« on: February 09, 2011, 03:27:45 am »
Hey guys I have a somewhat large file I am trying to convert for my login screen on ashbringer...
but every time I try to convert it the mdx to m2 client crashes.

Is there another way to do this. or is my model simply to big / small.
I am going to post a picture of what I am trying to achieve.

I am trying to take this mdx of the NE TFT Campaign, take out the Night Elf and keep the animations
and turn it into an m2 which I can make the login screen for ashbringer.

This is a picture of the mdx in game.

Here are the files... would love if someone could help me

I don't recommend you to use it, it's quite low poly, and animations are not well supported, besides, Wc3 models are oversized compared to WoW models and would look ubergiant

You shouldn't be brought down by the two facts SirFranc mentioned. Resizing the models is a built in function in most converters so I guess this won't be a problem. Low Poly is definitly true for the character and environment models but the login screens are actually pretty "normal" Low Poly, especially when compared to WoW Classic models I'd dare to say the polycount is pretty much equal.
And then I guess it would be a major improvement to those uber shitty recolored "ololol Cust0m Log1n!11"s from MMowned etc  :ugly:

As far as I know it does require you to build a custom camera into the model to be able to use it as Login Screen and the count of people able to do that is at least from those I personally know of around 2 or 3 ;)
And lots of hex editing, no tools.
Compared to the size and polycount I guess this is quite a bit more of a problem

Thanx again... I appreciate all the input you guys have given me I will try my best to do what is possible in this scenario

[EDIT] I would really really like to get this working. if anyone can just take the mdx and turn it into an m2 for me I can do the rest I just need the mdx converted.
I know that may sound really stupid, seeing as it is probably quite a task.
but I figured someone could either guide me through how to do this, or do it for me.
I just want to get it working.
also if I wanted to design my own login m2 how would I go about putting in animations and such...
I think this is the reason I thought I would just use an mdx from wcIII.

I can provide the mdx to whoever can convert it,
or help me do this.

Do you think it is the size of the file... because like Sirfranc sayed
the models from wcIII are larger.
which I was not aware of. I always thought they were smaller haha.
But if it is the size is there a way to make it smaller and then convert it?
possibly delete some of the model and take out some of the uneeded animations?

I don't think it's the model, If I had to guess I'd say it's the converter but maybe that's because I'm having a load of problems with it too.
I have not yet been able to convert any model via mdx to m2 but it's always stuck at that part. Obj to Mdx works perfectly fine, it also shows everything in the WC3 Viewer and then the m2 created out of it crashes the client.
The odd thing here is that the converter crashes once your model is loaded  :|

O.k. So I found a tool called warblender for the blender 3d modeling application... which imports and exports mdx files... I figured I could mess with the model a little possibly take a different m2 and convert it to mdx and reshape it, but I don't know how to use scirpts for blender, I just need to know were to put them / were to turn them on.

I found out were to put the scripts and everything... but It gives me a python error no module named _abco11

I don't know how to fix this can anyone that knows python help... *cough cough*
TIG!!!

Okay, u think that some one can to compile m2 model with all particles, models and other crap?
Be realistic, easier to make custom model.

Making a custom model is easy peasy, converting it to wow is a problem...
