Hey, what's up!
« on: August 25, 2010, 08:53:35 am »
Just wanted to introduce myself to everyone on the site, and a little background of myself. I just recently got into WoW, I actually started off modding xbox games (one of which was left 4 dead 2), im currently a moderator at left4modz.com. If anyone is interested in modding games on the xbox. Did a little with MW2, oblivion, and similar games. About 3 weeks ago found out a friend had a private wow server, but was having issues making it public so I did all the work for him, started playing it and got the idea of making my very own continent or world in the server. Watched a few videos and came across this site, hoping to learn alot from everyone, and also hopefully contribute back to community 10 fold.

P.S. sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, I didn't see an introduction section so figured this would be the best location.

Welcome to the forum :)
It's still in an early stage but just ask and you'll be helped. Be warned though, the tools are by far not as stable as you're probably used to from games like oblivion. Blizzard doesn't yet really support modding and so we have to do all the tools on our own.

Just curious: what in particular did you mod in the other games?

Oh yeah, we didn't feel the need for people to introduce themselves actually since it's more their actions within the community that define them.

*I can understand that the tools still having instability issues on the occasion, that's any tool that someone makes, bugs happens and im fine with that. When I modded oblivion though I just did hex editing and such since there are no major programs for the xbox.

* I understand the not supporting mods thing with blizzard cause they worry that alterations of their product could destroy them in the event that an outside person somehow comes up with a design that people find much more enjoyable, using their engine.

*As to the other games what I did with them was unencrypting them, and changing the protected information so that you could do anything you wanted with your characters and their items. Me and a friend, took a game called Sacred 2 and were the first people to ever create a save file editor for it. Left 4 Dead 2 was a bigger favorite of mine. Since the things you could do were only limited by your scripting ability. At the time I was new to scripting but I was a cartagraphor mostly when it came to modding.
A link to a video I did:

Just a little example of my kind of mods. The only issue with what I did in that video had to be done all in game and caused some lag issues since the game engine wasn't used to so many in game objects in such a confined space.

*Maybe later a introduction section can be made or people who join later on as well will just use my thread to start an intro. I view the intro threads as a good step into a new community, if you get my drift. But I can understand what you mean by their actions.
