SirFranc's stuff
« on: June 15, 2015, 10:53:45 pm »
Hi.

(by Skarn on NewFound's thread)

Considering SirFranc gave his permission to use his stuff if anyone still have it, has anyone considered gathering them ? And maybe, decrypt them ?

I never had the chance to play Chronicles of Azeroth. I wish I had. The world map with all those new lands haunt my dreams every night. It's his screenshot that made me understood the potential modding this game have.

They must not be forgotten.

I think people mostly consider his stuff to be good out of a kind of mystique created by how secret he was with his edits. The edits themselves really aren't that great. I mean they're impressive from a technical point of view I guess, but in terms of the more artistic qualities of the edits they're unoriginal and not very atmospheric.

Good luck in your hunt regardless, but personally I think you'll be disappointed!

Yeah, I've seen a few of his edited maps (Silverpine, Tirisfal, and WPL IIRC) and it wasn't that great IMO. It was alright, but just not something I'd use.

I'm interested in the custom world maps he made back then (it's in Interface folder I suppose, or maybe World I can't remember) for his new areas. If anyone has them, I would be extremely grateful if he could upload them.

How is copy/pasting SirFranc's work, worth calling "Modding"?

It's something i'd expect from ownedcore members.

Currently studying Game Design at Copenhagen University. I also have a big project going on, sadly I have no portfolio of it (yet).

I don't think anyone said it was called modding. SirFranc made some interesting adaptations to WoW and other people would like to experience it. The entire point behind making mods is making the game more fun. This is why we share.

Have I ever talked about launching a server with SirFranc's work ?
Have I ever pretended to work on its stuff, then call it mine ?

I apologize if I did sound like a leecher. Sure, I can understand that if his work was to be compiled some people would "leech" it without producing anything back. Yet, I'm not sure it's easy to decide who is one and who's not. It's a plague and a concrete problem for forums like this one.
I thought I was not part of them (or at least, not anymore), but it's up to you to decide.

I wanted to take a look at its Azeroth World map to see the shape of its interpretation of what the Lordaeron continent should be, with Zul'Aman & a more complete Quel'Thalas.
To look if they fit the lore, which game it was based on, how he managed to connect them with existing zones (Eastern Plaguelands/Ghostlands..) because I want to make a complete, faithful to traditional Warcraft lore, paper map, with Gimp. A simple screenshot would be enough.

It's a shame you would recognize me as an Ownedcore member. I have an account there, like many people here, yet I have never participated in their discussions. Therefore I don't consider my self as a part of their community. I wouldn't mind if Ownedcore's members called me a leecher, because then, considering my presence on their forums, it would probably fit the definition.

On Modcraft however, I would like to participate and produce useful work as well as feedback for others.
I understand and can appreciate elitism. But your message sounds to me like toxicity.

Let me remind you everything you produce, come from all the ideas and experiences you have gathered so far.
Don't let anyone access to yours, and you won't have any leecher, yeah, but you won't be relevant on the long term for anyone but yourself.

What's wrong if someone launches a server _based_ on his edits? He and his team have made quite some cool stuff, and someone can continue working on it. There is nothing bad in reviving an old project.

So Elinora you have the files that OP is needed. But you didn't send those files even via pm just to him not everyone. You just wrote this:

Why did you asked this? What would give you the answer to this question?
So if you don't want to help the guy (who helping the community by making some scripting of LK2BC converter) without knowing his plans on this stuff then just don't reply to thread.

I've got a lot of things archived, so if you can provide me with file names or some pictures of his stuff I'll check to see if I have it.

If you can send the files to me, I'll add them to my online archive and throw around some working links to his work.

Just a section of my site where I keep backups of whatever I need to backup.  =P

There's no specific page listing everything in there though. I just post links to it in the original topics.
