Kul Tiras
« on: August 23, 2013, 07:10:35 pm »
Well, it isn't much yet, but I've starting working on some models for Boralus/Kul Tiras.

The first (and only picture for now) is the gate of Boralus. It's about 50%ish finished. Still needs two towers at both sides. I'm not sure I'm happy with the size of it at the moment either. No ingame screenshot at the moment, nor from WMV because WMV doesn't recognize the textures at the moment. Doesn't have any doodads yet either.

Boralus Citygate

Edit: With some doodads to give an idea of how it could look. Obviously these do not represent Tiranian doodads/flags etc.

*gasp* If you come here with such a cool model, my version of Kul Tiras will be totally outdated and I will have to rework it ! NOOOOOOOOOOOooOOooo !....

But, more seriously, the architecture kind of reminds me of Venice's, and I think it's a perfect choice for Boralus !  :D However, the model is too straight for being a good model in WoW. Wow models are NEVER straight (except the very old ones). Plus, this gate is too little for being a city gate, it looks like the entrance of a court or a street, but nothing more : Doors in wow have to be really exagerated.

I can't wait to see it totally done :P

Allifeur is right, models of walls are never straight. I guess for Boralus dark texture is much better. Anyway, it'ss amazing that you will use custom models, so keep on your work! ;)

It isn't quite straight actually, it's a bad screenshots from that perspective.

But even so, since MoP has started using straight walls again, see the Serpent's Spine and the Mogu buildings.

WoW! The model looks amazing, I'm really looking forward to see the city finished.

I think even though it may be looks straight ingame it could look quite good, even better with some doodads.

This is a good start! A little advice, the arches are too rounded for me. Try to vary the shapes as I've done to bridge to the island of Kul Tiras to Allifeur so I can post it here, not to steal the limelight: p but to help you!
And sorry for my english...
Sincerely Dalkar.

Yeah, I've got a version with Gothic archs aswell, perhaps it fits a bit better. But I'm trying to get a basic shape first. I want it to fit my build before I start adding more detail.

I'm sort of trying to find a nice mix of Gothic Venetian (Pic) and ancient Greek/Roman architecture (Such as in the ancient temples and the Porta Nigra.) And then I have to add a personal touch aswell.

Edit: I'd prefer to use selfmade textures aswell. But I'm terribly bad with Photoshop, so the textures you see are currently the textures used by Blizzard for the Mogu in Mists of Pandaria.

Updated the main post, sadly I can't get the textures to work for some reason. They show up fine in noggit, just not ingame...
