How to get ranks?
« on: August 18, 2015, 07:10:46 pm »
I want to discuss what ranks we should/could have.
And how in the future this ranks should be given.

I was in the past often get criticized about this.
So a more community driven way would be nice.

So lets collect ideas!

You could just use the regular ranking system that's done by post count. Although I don't see much use for ranks though.

Personal it is a good point to see if people have skills in one direction.
Also everyone is other.

The post count is not realy helpfull as many people post much..but nothing usefull :)

I personal don´t like proofing myself.
But it is a big part for many others.

not all at once ;)

ok my thoughts about ranks.  some dividing of existing once.

3d artist for great model creators
worldbuilder for skilled mapmaking
developer for people creating tools
scripting master for lua or core scripting

contributers activ and helpfull members
veteran for people that are  loong here ;)

contributers would stay as they are.  if we see a member is realy active and helpfull he just get it.
all other ranks members can nominate or are price for contest winners.

Can you see the full date in our profiles? I registered some years ago and can only see "Mar 17, 12:31" in my profile. :s

EDIT: If you should wonder why i said years ago and you read 2014 in my account, that's why: memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=1612 - I wanted my nickname that i use everywhere, Kaev, not the one i had before. :P

You can change that in your personal settings. The standard should contain "Y" for year.

I don't know why my setting was set to a custom one, but i wondered since my registration why it is like that.. Finally i can see the year everywhere. Thanks. :)

Because I at some point removed year from the default as it looked better in the index page layout. I might or might not be an idiot.

In my opionion the contributers where a big help. These people were more or less realy active on this forum and usually the have known the forum quite good and even if they had no idea how to do a certain topic they could just link you a post or name you a person who knows more.

And if a moderator sees such a person he could nominate him/her or just give him this rank.

I would like to suggest also another rank since it seems to be left out.

Something along the lines of Model Editing Expert or Model Editing Addict, something like that for people like myself for example that tend to do a lot of model editing since "3d artist for great model creators" doesn't seem to count toward this, most people that edit models at an intermediate level also tend to make their own 3D models.

This rank would help distinguish those out there again like myself that tend to do a lot of model editing from those that don't.

The way to gain it would be some what like the way Worldbuilder rank is earned.
