so is there a way to downgrade to 3.x so i can use the map editor?

normally you have to delete the patch.mpq in the data folder and then just use repair.exe but may it don't work on cataclysm...

I would make a copy of the wow folder and test it on one folder...

its strange that it automaticly updates to 4.0 in updater. so now i have to find patches is guess

It's always been like that.
BC Release -> Automatically 2.x
WotLK Release -> Automatically 3.x

So yes, you have to look for the patches, but concerning WoW there are plenty of patch mirror sites.

I'd suggest the Patches Scrolls, their mirrors are pretty quick.
