[QUESTION] [1.12.1] Face comes out weird after race swap
« on: September 16, 2015, 05:21:02 am »
Hi guys, brand new to the community.

I just started model editing today after playing on Nostalrius for a couple weeks. I just preformed a race swap from Undead Male to Human Female. It works great except the skin and facial features are a bit off.

Is there a thread that goes through how to fix these and/or a thread with the mpq file for this race swap already done? I tried the search tool but didnt find much so sorry if this has already been posted!

Every model in game has UV maps, which set texture to model. You'll either have to change undead textures so they will fit on human models (like you already said, you will have to change faces, the rest of model should be perfectly fine), or change human model you have used in 3D editor and remake UV maps of face. For second option, check tutorials corresponding to 3D and character editing in general in modelling section. Btw, don't remake original human female model, make a copy of it to avoid ruining humans, but that should be obvious.

Cool, thanks! Any reason to pick one of those options over the other as someone with no experience in either?

Modifying textures themselves could be quite time-consuming, especially if you can't write some sort of script for doing the same operations with all face textures at once. However, its still just quite basic photoshop work and thus easy. Remaking UV maps on character models and in general messing with them will need more advanced technical skills. I am just beginner in 3D art in general and especially in porting models to WoW/modifying them, so I won't help you with this option any further.

For someone who is familiar with 3D and conversion of character models to WoW would be reUVmapping cleaner, faster and more simple way.
