[QUESTION] [WotLk] How does guns work in world of warcraft?
« on: January 26, 2016, 04:31:12 am »
Hello, I have been importing 3D models in to wow for a while now so i know how that works. But now i modelled a gun and i have not tried to import it yet because there is one problem. I know it will be problem with the bullets because the clients needs to know somehow where the gun pipe is so the client knows where the bullet should come from. So my question is how do i import gun and set the position for bullet to shoot the bullet out from the gun pipe? I hope i explained it good enough.

Btw im sorry if this is wrong forum section but i couldnt find any other suitable section so i posted it here. Feel free to move if its wrong :)

I guess a work around for this at the moment until you get a better response about changing the location, is to simply either find a gun that matches yours in size/pipe location or use one as a base that already exists and mod it....

Thanks for reply. It may be worth to try but i think its set in the m2 file. I have never converted m2 to obj only obj to m2 and idk if its possible to do it and keep the bullet location at same place. But i guess best way to find out is probably to test it :P

Converting OBJ to M2 is possile, WMV exports M2s as OBJs. But its quite obvious that such conversion leads into loosing some data from M2 and this will be among them, so this won't help you at all. I don't know where is this set, probably somewhere in particle emitters (or maybe not...), I never tryed to make gun before.

Anyway, have you tryed to just make gun without this point set? Did it really look so bad?

I could imagine that the "point it shoots off" is the x-axis. It would fit into the general weapon scheme and as the projectiles are smaller than the weapon, they would "pass through unnoticably".

If it is something else than just the origin, try the  $WT* events, or the Bullet attachment. They probably use one of them. Have a look at an existing gun to find out.

Im not sure if it will work with my gun. its pretty small. Most guns in wow use bigger ones like a shotgun but my gun is small

Here is my gun

Particle of bullet comes out from X,Y,Z=0,0,0(of gun you are holding) so all you have to do is pose gun to match "for example line X" and it will look like your bulelt is comming from pipe

for example like this

my gun is little bit abow the red line but thats cuz im posing gun to look better while in hand "no aim yet"

Alright. But if i pose my gun so the pipe is centered in the viewport then i think the character will not hold the gun correctly. But i will see if i can find any gun similar to my model and maybe replace that gun with my gun. Maybe that will work

Yeah, one handed is a bit non-existent currently.
However, there is a new pistol anim with legion for rogues. I wait for it to launch.
