Showoff - what you are working on / Re: Completely Playable map
« on: April 25, 2019, 06:32:07 pm »
Nice. I like the layers of trees in the back. Looks more interesting than the usual bare hilltops.

Thanks, yeah the zone is far from finished but i have no lore or any ideas for what i should populate the wild with so i will be putting that zone on hold. I have a new project that im working on (same map) that will be playable. this is my progression so far.

*EDIT*
Update on how it looks on one of my newer uploads (This is not how it currently looks but the city has not undergone much chance since i took this.)

Currently Put on Hold since i am out of ideas on what i should fill the world with, have hopped on a newer and a bit smaller project.

Im working on a new map i made a while ago every now and then. as im too lazy to get new screenshots all the time its kinda hard to showcase the zone as i need many.

But i do have this awesome image.

Is it like this on other maps? or only the ones you create yourself?

If not, and you only see this on your own maps. then you have a problem i had ages ago. Basically i assume you are adding maps the old way, With taliis. Which is super messy and works for some and doesnt work for others.

I had these similar issues before as i said and i today have no problems creating maps. This is highly because there is a package with tools now that easily creates the maps for you and takes way less time to setup.
    - You can find these tools here: http://www.file-upload.net/download-8969417/WoWModding.zip.html
If you need any kind of guides go here: http://www.modcraft.io/index.php?board=78.0

These are the folders from the tool pack that you downloaded, which are:
    • AdtAdder
    • ADTGrids
    • FuTa
    • GroundEffects
    • GruulMeWDT
    • Rius Zone Masher
    • WdtSupplies

Out of these you only need AdtAdder & Rius Zone Masher.
Simply go to "AdtAdder", Launch "ADT_Adder.exe"
Source ADT: press "Browse" and select "WotLKTemplateADT_0_0.adt" from the same folder.
Map Name: Name of the map you want to call it(not the final name that will show up ingame, just a definition for the DBC files to locate the map later on)
ADT from: 1, 1 (This are the numbers of where it should start creating the map from.)
ADT to: 10, 10 (This are the numbers where it should go to and end at.)

    Example

    ADT from: 1, 5
    ADT to: 10, 10

You will start building maps from and to
    1_5
    1_6
    1_7
    1_8
    1_9
    1_10
    2_5
    2_6
    2_7
    2_8
    2_9
    3_5

If this in some way makes sense to you. i usually do
    From: 1_1
    To: 8_10

This is a huge map which allows me to expand and get used to the software. And if you ever need to add more space, you can just copy and paste this example above and then just use Rius Zone Masher to clip them together.[/list]

Noggit / Re: Noggit - First Map - Terrain, textures??
    « on: April 12, 2019, 06:22:04 am »
What version of noggit are you using?

There is plenty of tools that do different things. i would highly suggest you use a github version which is updated to the latest which offers far more advanced tools of what you currently can find on the forums.

As for textures you can only have 4 max a red square of a ADT(Tile), theres 256 Squares a ADT(Tile) and there are 4096 hole squares. - No idea what else to call them.

1: Raise/Lower, Increase or Decrease the altitude of the terrain etc.
2: Flatten/Blur, Smoothing the terrain out.
    3: 3D Paint (Painting textures)
4: Holes, you open up small squares that can be seen by pressing F7 and then "View" > "Hole Lines always on" often used for caves and basements etc.
5: Area paint, which lets you add Area types that are defined in Areatable.dbc
6: Impassible flag, Makes it impossible for users to bypass the selected area.
7: Water Edit, Lets you add and take away/change the color opacity of water.
8: Light edits, Currently non functional.
9: Shader editor, color different areas with shading.
0: Object editor, Lets you place, add & copy objects and edit them.

I tried this and it did not work. im pretty sure you have to force it to read your patch and pack those files, but not sure if that will work.

I am unable to find any version of the 1.4 noggit one, reason to why i want the 1.4 is because i can add water chunk by chunk instead of every ADT.

Noggit / Re: Backing your map up.
    « on: June 30, 2018, 05:32:02 pm »
I simple use a git repo to backup my files. Even if you don't push it to a server it is the best way. Git also do binary diffs, so less space wast, easy nd fast creation of backups and you can save many steps during your build process.

I didnt think of it that way. sounds actually smart

Noggit / Backing your map up.
    « on: June 02, 2018, 07:03:30 pm »
Backup your files in a organised & Simple way
When it comes to noggit it is very very important that you make backups, without a backup and 1 mistake you could ruin the whole map in seconds, so being it a 5 minute project or a month worth project. Therefore its important that you create backups, but it takes a lot of space and might get messy to know what backup is what.

So how do can you backup saving harddrive space, but also make it easy to see what backup is which?

It's pretty simple and something i started doing myself. so how do you do it?

    Saving Hard drive space
There is a very easy way to save space on your backed up maps, That is by adding it to a Winrar archive.
It compresses the files and lessens the space but it ALSO makes it easier to store other files inside it. Such as Pictures or Notes

You can Archive a folder or a file to a Rar file by right clicking it and then pressing "add to "name_of_the_file".rar
My rar file saved 75% more space when i archived my backup.

    Save even more Space
Another way to save even more hard drive space is to adding the Map first to a MPQ file and then to a rar file, it compresses it and makes it even smaller.

    Naming the files
Naming the Backups is very important because it lets you know what backup is what, and what changes you made.
So when you make a backup, always rename it to what the map is called and then the date of the time the backup was made.

    Quote
    Mapname_2018-05-30

Another way to easier know what changes you made to the map is adding a short description to the name after the date

    Quote
    Mapname_2018-06-01_Before mountain changes
Now This will only tell you the changes you made at that point, if its a big map or you decide to take some off, you might have forgotten what that change was, So how can we make it easier to know what we did? Take a picture inside Noggit of what you changed

Windows comes with a very handy tool called "Snipping Tool" that allows you to easily take photos and then save them to your computer in seconds (On Macbook use CTRL + Shift + 4)

This is one easy way to do it if you don't want to use winrar to archive files.
Now Save the picture with the exact name as the backup

    Quote
    Mapname_2018-06-01_Before Mountains.PNG
Example of how the picture could look Mapname_2018-06-01_Before Mountains.PNG

If you wish to add a note instead, then do the same thing as you did with the picture.

    Recommendation

I personally would recommend that you use Winrar to archive the Backup with the pictures and notes. It allows a much cleaner look inside your backup folder and also makes it easier to navigate, it at the same time saves hard drive space.

Here are some pictures to show the difference between normal folders and win-rared folders.

    With Winrar

    Without Winrar

Noggit / Discord dedicated to noggit
    « on: May 19, 2018, 08:21:28 pm »
Discord has become very big the past years and is now used for everything and is mostly used and tells users to navigate to instead of forums. Therefore with an idea (You already know what im gonna ask) do you think a discord server dedicated to Noggit would be something that you are interested in?

A place where people can share their work, guides, get help, discuss noggit and be part of the modding community who also uses noggit.

I think it would open the interest for Noggit more and it would help us progress faster in our creations.

Personally i think it would be great and it would allow you to quick and easily get support it anything you do.

My twitch channel can be found here: https://www.twitch.tv/syphex97

Although im gonna wait and stream until i get fiber, because at the moment my bitrate is too low to put up with better quality than 360p sadly, so it will be in the summer when i also graduate and i can work with maps on a daily basis :)
