[WIP] Dalkannes Isles
« on: June 28, 2014, 07:02:12 pm »
Hello modcraft

It's been a while since I didn't made any show-Off, so I decided to change that with one of my works in progress : Dalkannes Isles.

It was made for the french server Shadow Storm as a human starting zone. I will not last too much about lore details now, you'll only have pictures. All the things you see are not totally definitive : a lot of things are not worked yet. Nevertheless you still can still give your opinion, but don't say obvious stuff like "Some mountains are not worked!" or "There are no grounds effects".. I already know that.

That's all I have to say, enjoy !

Port Turalyon [85% done]
[spoiler:37e15dti]

 The barrack.

Some streets.

The townhall square.

With some chayote and aloe farms. (And some sheeps)

 The cemetery.

The forge

Let's have a better look over the fortifications.

There is a system allowing players to go on the ramparts.

The inn

An isolated fisher house

[/spoiler:37e15dti]

The lumber-mill [70% done]

[spoiler:37e15dti]

[/spoiler:37e15dti]

And other stuff on the island [15% done]

[spoiler:37e15dti]

Some tents are so hard that you can even put barks on them.

Bonus : http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/754668WoWScrnShot062814154948.jpg[/spoiler:37e15dti]

That's it, I hope you liked it.

I don't have much experience with modding WoW but that is one exceptionally good looking zone.

Thank you. You don't have to be an expert to say what you think, don't worry, players aren't experts either, but the maps are made for them.

In general it looks really good, it's one of the best builds I've ever seen. But there is one thing I noticed I personally can't stand... (Sorry, that's just me ;p). The dirt road in the forest could really, really use another texture layer, or just some pebbles on it to add some detail. But as you said, it's still work in progress.

Well, I don't think it's that much of a problem, but you're kind of right, this dirt texture is more suited to farms than forest. I think it's mainly annoying when I make dirt road, but as a border texture it's ok. Maybe I'll try with a more rocky texture with the same colors.
Maybe I will try to put some sand/moutains texture with a low opacity over the dirty roads at the pirate camp. The limit of textures is quite annoying on that point. If it really doesn't work then I'll change it

That could work. Perhaps you already have a sandy (and/or rock) texture in the same chunk? I usually use a 25% opacity to just give it a bit of variation.

But you shoud also use groundeffectdoodads in the end, like 2-3 variations of small (like, really small) rocks/pebbles, it helps a lot. But it's not worth doing untill you are done with everything else.

Also, is this running on Cataclysm/MoP?

No, the water may make you think it's Cata, but it's running on Wotlk.
