[SOLVED][QUESTION] Unusual .WMO Texture Error
« on: January 23, 2014, 01:05:33 am »
Hey!

So, I was looking through the content of the excellent Cata/MoP content patch uploaded by Anthony and I noticed something odd occurring in some of the .wmos.

Some of the .wmos seem to be missing textures; specifically, some of them are basically big matte-colored blocks of black, beige and various other colors, but I can't figure out why. I don't think it's a case of a corrupted .skin file nor does it seem to be a case of missing textures, but I can't think what else it would be other than those two things. What's more bizarre is that some of these .wmos appear as part of larger .wmos with their textures working correctly!

Any help would be much appreciated!

To expand on this; it seems to be some issue in applying texture to the .wmo. There do seem to be some missing textures, but when I add the missing textures in to the game files they don't seem to add anything to the .wmo, despite showing up as being associated with the model in WMV.

These wmos must work fine in game.  The reason for this bug is that noggit's and wmv's rendering algorythms are a bit different than WoW's one. That means you will have this bug with some models in wmv and noggit but they will look fine in the game. The best example is Hammerfall dwarves' houses, so just spawn them and get there in game.

If you extract these textures from WMV, they turn up somewhat transparent. Is there any way to properly use them to reskin older WMO's?

You can find all these textures in MPQs and extract them manually.
