[SOLVED] Unable to Launch Noggit
« on: January 11, 2013, 05:37:29 pm »
SOLVED: I've run it as administrator; apparently that was the issue for the first time it did not even occur to me.

I have managed to launch the program successfully for the first four times and I was rather amazed by its speed and new capabilities; since I hadn't used Noggit for a while now.

Yet now whenever I try to launch it, it gives me a white screen then terminates itself after a second or two.

Below is the log;

I have not touched anything since the first few times it worked; haven't even launched WoW, WMV or anything relevant to any of those. I have not changed anything in the game folder either.

No. As I've said; haven't run WoW for some time now. I haven't even launched it anytime before or after the first few times this revision of Noggit worked.

Something is preventing noggit from opening _any_ MPQ. So either something is running in the background, thus locking the files, or Noggit does not have permission to open those files due to misconfiguration of your files / users.

If you're certain nothing's running in the background (that you can see) try restarting your computer and making noggit the first program you open, it could be some weird process running that you can't see.

Schlumpf was right; ran as administrator, works like a charm now.

I cannot believe that the issue was so simple, thank you regardless!

Mmmmm, some people said that the problem was solved after they turned on one functuion of windows in your wow folder. I don't know how it is named in English. If I translate from Russian word-by-word, it will be "public access" Just try.

Or that. Either would work. Since I have run into no problems pertaining to the administrator mode, I am going to keep using it for the time being.

The problem in this case is by the way not that you have to run noggit as administrator because it needs it not. The problem is that the user you are logged on with dont have full file access rights to the WoW folder. If you go into props of the folder and reset all rights for your current user then noggit will also run without administrator. This problem often shows up if you copied wow to your harddisc after isntallation. Or have it on an other partition and installed windows new.

The thing is if you run noggit as admin and past a model that noggit cant find in MPQs it will crash. Dont know why ;)

The question rather is, why it does NOT crash in non-admin mode, as it obviously is a segmentation fault that is blocked by the OS to prevent exploitation.

So: rather fix the issue than advise to run in a mode where a crash has unknown results and might corrupt files or application.

If I change the permissions of the folder it would be fixed, correct.

Yet since I am facing no issues pertaining to Noggit run in administrator mode at the moment I can safely stick to it for the time being out of laziness.
