Thanks a lot for the blood-elves models release dude, they work flawlessly. :D

@Neunia, to get over it you need to edit the textures specified in CreatureDisplayInfoExtra.dbc (last field of every row).

For instance,

You'd have to change this

into this

I've done some tweaking, but I couldn't figure out how to avoid the crash when exiting the game. I want two things to resolve for this patch:

1. Avoid the crashes (spoils any change made in that session of the game)
2. Patch to affect only players, not NPCs

How can I avoid the crashes? Just remove the _HD from all lines, or there's something more to it?

Also, what files and their content do I need to edit in order for the models to be loaded only for players?

I couldn't find any DBC editor that can be user friendly, or have a proper search feature (so if you could pinpoint me to the right direction, that would be awesome).

Looking forward for your answers in order to jump in and tweak some more and get results this time.

@Neunia

Convert the textures specified in CreatureDisplayInfoExtra.dbc to png (using BLPConverter6 / BLPConverter8).
Install photoshop if you don't have it.
Then use this in photoshop.

OR

See this thread if you don't wanna do that for every texture. :)

@Korsyo

If you want the npcs and the player to use different models :
  • Open CreatureModelData.dbc.
  • You will find the models currently used for both players and creatures at rows 49 to 60.
  • Copy these rows (all of them) to veeeery high entries (they don't have to be that high, let's just say higher than 3440).
  • Change the model names of the latter rows so that it fits the name of the HD model you are using for players ( E.G. "CharacterHumanMaleHumanMale_hd.mdx" )
  • Jot down the entries of these newly created rows, then save (make very sure you did it) and close the dbc file.
  • Open CreatureDisplayInfo.dbc.
  • Replace the number in the second column of rows 49-60 by the entries you noted down two steps ago (IN ORDER).
  • Done!

Neunia: If you are not sure where to get those textures, all humanoid NPC textures can be found in Textures/BakedNPCTextures/ folder. Just use WoW Model Viewer for exporting them as PNG, edit them like Roarl said and then convert them back to BLP using BLiPster or BLPConverter and place your edited versions into Textures/BakedNPCTextures/ in your custom MPQ.

Korsyo: Its not (entirely) correct that models used for players are (only) at rows 54-60. Gnomes and trolls are around 160 if memory serves me well, BEs are 2208 and 2209 and draenei also somewhere above 2000. ChrRaces.dbc specifies which displayIDs are used for players, so if you are not sure about something, you can also check that DBC, however, do not change those displayIDs, as far as I know it can cause some crashes because of hardcoded/interface content. Even if that would be not a case, just follow what Roarl wrote here.

About DBC Editor, I have been using MyDBCEditor all the time and it nearly never disappointed me. There are a few of DBC which can't be edited by that editor because it either can't open them or corrupts them a little bit, such DBCs need to be edited by other ways, but it does just fine and is noob-friendly just enough. You need to clickl like idiot all the time there, no key binds or anything like that, so its rather unpleasant tool to work with when you have a lot of work to be done, but it does its job well-enough.

There is also DBCUtil and now new DB2/DBC <-> CSV convert (not yet tested by me) for converting DBCs to CSV. CSV is standart format which can be edited in some editors and can also be imported into MySQL as database table, which means you can work with that much better than with stupid DBC, but you need to convert everything back to DBCs in order to test it and make it work, so it has its own drawback too.

Thank you for the help Roarl and Amaroth. I was able to make some modifications with success, but I got stuck at something. In CreatureDisplayInfo.dbc, I managed to change the model id's from row 49 to 60. Question is, where do I find the rows for trolls, gnomes, bloodelves and draenei? I made the same thing as I did for 49-60, but draenei and elves have no textures now and 185, 186, 182, 183 which are for trolls and gnomes, have different values.

For example at row 182 it says the following:
182   47   0   0   1   255   DragonSpawnSkinWhite   DragonSpawnBodySkinWhite    -1   0   0   0   0   0

And row 185 does not exist in order to modify the troll model.

IDs from CreatureModelData.dbc are NOT displayIDs for creatures/players. That displayIDs used by some playable races are same as IDs of their models is pure coincidence. IDs I marked here for you are displayIDs, so you need to go to CreatureDisplayInfo.dbc and there you will find your model IDs. Or you can open CreatureModelData.dbc and use search function in MyDBCEditor to find humanmale, humanfemale... and another models there. Hopefuly you will find correct ones by that way too.

I've properly edited now and all looks great at char selection screen. However, when I go into world, the game crashes instantly as soon as the loading screen finishes, like 90% of the time. In some areas I can roam for a bit, then it crashes. It makes a weird glitch on the screen as well (attached pic).

I can confirm that the NPCs no longer have the HD models and they are back to the old ones, but judging from that glitch, I can see it's related to them.

EDIT:
Made a new char and had the chance to explore the NPCs a little more. There is something wrong with their model...to be more exact, the hair. CreatureDisplayInfoExtra.dbc needs some changes, or what could be the cause?

Below are some comparisons

I'm super excited about this patch, and I am wanting to use it on my server. But the human males have a seam across the back of the neck, is there any fix for this that anyone has discovered? Because I just can't use these models with that present :/

Is there anyone who could guide me how to combine two MPQ files that contains different WOD models for WOTLK?

I would like to take out human, dwarf, nightelf, gnome, orc, undead, tauren, troll from warmanes MPQ and combine them with bloodelfs and draenies from Clockworkapple23 Patch J.
