Hey folks, I'm Whitbyrudie/rudie/Chris,

I'm a new member and kind of feel like I jumped in the deep end as even the beginner tutorial pages look chinese to me.

That said I think this is an AMAZING idea, i've long been a proponent of many people contributing to a single project and this is a great example of how it's done so pat yourselves on the back, not just the creators, but all the contributors.

I have a hundred questions, but most of them will get answered when I explore the forum more and get my hands on some software to play around with.  That said, I do have one question I'd like to lead with:

How long would it take someone with absolutely no experience in modding, computer programming, anythign really but a basic set of html skills (and I mean basic) to learn how to mod and be able to start putting worlds together?

I have a lot of ideas, but I want to make sure my expectations are realistic and I don't end up just getting frustrated and give up on it.

Cheers
Chris

Hi and welcome :)

Mmh that's hard to answer your question... It really depends on what effort you put into all this and how curious you are. I'd say, give it a try, follow some tutorials, read, re-read as much as you can (99% of beginner questions already have an answer somewhere on the forum) to get a better grasp of how everything works. If something looks too hard at first, keep it in mind and come back to it later : as you get more confident, things will get clearer.

You don't really need to know how to code to use the existing tools, and creating your first map shouldn't be that difficult. It's a very cool feeling to make your character walk on your own map :)
My advice would be, for map creation : start with a small project, experiment on it, and then you can go for something bigger.

Have to upgrade my RAM before i can start fiddling with it, on the back up computer as my main just died so spending the time getting familiar with the forum, have already gone through a few of the tutorials though, the possibilities seem endless, being an oldschool table top RPG nerd from back in the day, this seems like something I've waited a long time for, a viable way to bring table top to the digital world so i'm super stoked for it.

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep looking around.

Cheers
Chris
