This is just an idea for a questchain which can be developed into something big.

The whole story starts from a certain ( or not so ) NPC which is already a quest giver. The NPC will give the player "A Letter of Refference" to be taken to some other NPC in perhaps another zone. The letter itself will be an actual readable letter in your bagpack which the player can read...or can skip. If the player is too lazy to read it he will just bring it to the second NPC which after reading the letter can:
1. Take the player around for a walk and ambush him
2. Kill him accompanied by the quest hub's guards.

Basically like in some movies someone gives you a mission, you complete it and then sends you to "help" someone else who is actually meant to do the dirty job and kill you. The idea with the first option isn't to give the player a chance. Once you have brought the letter there you are dead. After that you ressurect and take on a new mission. Destroy the group of people who assasinated you thus getting involved into a potentially amazing story.

What's cool about this idea is that you actually have a choice. If the player so happens to read the letter ( I always read WoW letters from NPCs because they are fun and have some story in them ) he will realize they want to kill him thus enabling another 2 options:
1. Run away. Hide. And never return.
2. Again try to get revenge on the group of people who wanted to kill you.

Needs some proper way to pick a "counter"-quest, like talking to the original quest giver, choosing some talking point.
Else, one may try hooking reading the letter and automatically pick up / show some alternative (cata+ style self-quests).

This quest could be good. The "taking a walk" should be automated, non-skippable, playing an animation of two people walking, then suddenly stabbing + screen fading to black + teleport + fade back in + stunned -> recovery sequence. Again, some sort of self-quest would be the best way to continue.

Yeah, that's exactly how I imagined it. I really liked Cata's self-quest-receiving but they overused it. And if the version with the walk and ambush is selected then the quest would only be enabled for turn-in once the walk is over and you die right after you click that complete quest button. I also see a lot of potential in the story hence why I arced myself to post it here.
