[SHOWOFF] New character backgrounds (UI)
« on: January 17, 2012, 01:13:03 am »
Hello, Modcraft!
I made new backgrounds for custom races. It's not the final version (i must add particles and some effects).

(The Troll ui is not the ui from Cataclysm...it's a new one made by me)

(I still need to work in this one)

Videos:

Hope you like it!

PS: I don't know why, but the videos look a little dark.
PS2: All the backgrounds are for custom races, except for the troll background. I just replaced the backgrounds of the classic races to test it.

this 3 or 2d backrounds?

To the water was more natural, better to make a "texture animation (frames)" I do not remember how many frames in Water, from 30 to 32

I tried making a scene in  3ds max and exporting the mdx so I could load it in mdlvis but it doesn't load it.
Do I need to make it from scratch in mdlvis?

No, in Mdlvis imports error occurs not in all 3ds, try to remove from 3ds all nformation except:
Meshes
Uvmaps
Normals

but i make in mdlvis 90% of cases from zero

blender and m2i plugin doesn't work on static models, you can try to modify a simple model and after attach all meshes to an unanimated bone, it should work

Half 2D and half 3D :P
I am working in some 3D backgrounds right now.

Well, you must always make two animations for the background. If you make a background with only one animation, it doesn't show in-game (i don't know why).
The is the hard part. You can create the model and then move the camera with hex or m2modder.

Thanks for showing these off! They look pretty good, though the Vrykul background's angle seems off somehow.

I've wanted to do a couple custom backgrounds myself, but never got around to it. I'd probably do a 3D scene instead, though, even if it's more difficult simply because it looks better. How difficult is it to get a static Blender model converted into a proper scene M2?
Yep, i must move the camera in the Vrykul background :P
Blender is an easy program, you can create awesome backgrounds with it.

Well, the blender M2I pluggin works with static models who have no animated bones. If the model has an animated bone, all the geosets joined to Bone0 will disappear.

Thank you, Steff! :)

Hm...i think about creating Naga starting screen (I can make it in MDLvis, for exemple). Fully 3D, like standard race screen`s, but...animation...i can create it in MDLvis, but (i look tutorials) with converting anim`s we all have alot of problem....so, only idea about underwater sunlight and other staff that need some animation is using dinamic textures (like water, for example, in Warcraft 3 or WoW)

Currently studying Game Design at Copenhagen University. I also have a big project going on, sadly I have no portfolio of it (yet).
