[RELEASE] 2d Map template.
« on: April 08, 2012, 06:48:57 pm »
Here is my photoshop 2d map template. You can use it to add the tiles from existing maps and resave them and you can also use it to start maps from zero.

- The file have the right map size of 1024 x 768
- The raster is set to 512 what is exactly one tile.
- There is a slice set to save the 4 x 3 tiles fast over save for web as PNG. You should change the name of the slices depending on your target map.
- Some layers are in for fast landmass creation in Blizzard classic style.

This can lead to maps like this. The stuff on land like mountains are not included.

Perhaps someone will write a tut how to use it if he figured it out. Ask if ou have questions or ideas how to make it better.

Here a tutorial:

I want to know how to identify ADTs on the map, to adjust the map correctly.

Your can reveal how to do please?

Perhaps it has something to do with the guides?
But I think no

Anyway, great!

I just creat another PSD with the minimaps and overlay this then as a merged image over the map.
For Minimaps i have a version with noggit lines and without. This way i see on witch adts the map boarders are.

BTW you should gibe the waterlines a widther range and you msut add the coastlines also.

Hey Steff,
First off, thanks so much for this.. You have really made my life a LOT easier. I have managed to work out how it works, and I'm quite proud of the outcome.

I'll show you here: (The only thing is, I'm not finished it yet, and you can most probably see).

I do have a few questions for you Steff...

- How can I adjust the Map to the ingame Adts... What I mean, is, let's the top island in said photo is aprox 1 adt in size... How can I then make sure, that when you stand on the edge of the island, and press M, it actually shows that you're on the edge of the island... I read something about dividing it into 12 different files, but I didn't really understand it..

If you could give any tips or advice on the matter, it would be really appreciated! :D

To adjust the stuff you need to do some DBC work.

- You ned correct entrys In Map.dbc and AreaTable.dbc.
- The AreaIDs must be on your ADTs!
- And then the map gets build in the WorldmapXYZ.dbcs

I creat for every zone another pic where I creat the minimaps with. I just use top shots from noggit. I do them 1 with lines (F7) to pos the adts right and the overlay them with shots without lines to get a seamless image in topview. Then i have 2 layers one with and one without lines. The one without I divide into the minimap the one with I overlay the map to find out on with ADTs the Mapboarders are and catch then the cords in noggit.

The map is nice. would say less space from landmass to the coastline. And yes you understand the file :)
Could you please write a smale tutorial how you did it so I can use the time for other stuff :) ?

Thanks again Steff! I'll give it a try and will most certainly post the outcome! :D

Oh, by the way, I have just done the tutorial, it's waiting to be approved in 2D Art // Tutorials subforum.

Thanks,
Soldan.

GIMP can work with PSD files. If you don't like GIMP, you can use it to open the PSD and export the layers as plain images.

Do you get something vastly different from what's seen in this tutorial: http://modcraft.io/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1686 ?

What you see is what you get. It's a template.

Man, that guide should really use layer masks more.
