« on: February 19, 2015, 01:10:45 pm »
Hi' everyone

Here's a part of our project, an island made by my teammate "Ekk" : "Le Havre Fusétincelle". An goblin's dream island where technology, polution, fauna and flora meeting together.

Hope you'll like it.

It looks great! Especially doodads placing and texturing.

That doesn't look bad but I will try to make a more constructive critique; if Ekk doesn't read English I can rewrite it in french for him, just ask.

First of all, for those who didn't noticed, this island is based on Rezznik's island ( ), this choice can be a good base when you're not very good for creating terrains but it also has some downsides ! In particular in the fact that you swapped the gravel texture by dirt, which might sound insignificant but should have much more impacts in the way of texturing. So let's take the last screen :

Because of this new texture, a contrast is created and the render becomes pixelated; moreover, the distance between the grass and the sand is way too big, generally the grass will try to go next to the sand.

Plus, reznik map doesn't have a wet sand part, the beach would look cooler if it had one. This same beach is sometimes way too big for what you're trying to do, so you made your docks on the sand, and even the brick houses were builded on it... So I know goblins and reckless, but they could at least take a more solid terrain. What I mean is that there should be no sand gap between the docks and the road.
Except that, the texturing is quite nice, even if I think it would need more rocky texture at somes places, like in the background of that screenshot :

About the choice of objects, it's generally good , except the use of booty bay fences that doesn't totally fit the color set, or the use of human tables and chairs at the goblin wild barbecue. Also, if you wanted to be fidel to the goblin spirit, cemented roads would have been nice.
And, the fact that there is a huge carnivorous plant next to the pool doesn't sound very reassuring to me.
Furthermore, you should find a higher place for your goblins zeppelins, because they clearly aren't in a good spot to fly right there.

That's all I could think of right now, that proves the map is good, I would play there ! And I'm a huge fan of the central wood platforms  :D

It's not. And to be franc, there is nothing in common with our island and his, and most important thing, if it was the case, I would credit him.

But thanks (sincerely) for the rest of your critics, we're going to improve this and post the ameliorations.
