Dynamic World
« on: August 21, 2013, 01:35:32 am »
(It is clear that this idea will maybe need a lot of work)

The idea is to make the woorld more dynamic. On normal rp server you would have RP-Gms who look what you do and change the world if you do something so idealistic you have a total dynamic world.

The problem we have is that we will have (hopefully) several 100 players but with this much player its almostimpossible to have enough staff for the way it is done today on rp server.

So i had the idea that we work more with "world events" or however you want to call it. Something like Ahn'Qiraj but not everytime that big.

So that if enough ppl did a wood chopping quest some forest disapear and maybe if too much wood disapear there will be a new quest to plant some trees. Or that after you collected enough things to build the camp will become bigger or more things or if you rescued enough survivors there will be more ppl and with this changes in the world also the quests change.

This will give a more dynamic gameplay and also will it give the possibility to play the same area again and again and maybe it will never be the same. Of course we have to look that the new quests will also be about the same difficulty/lvl than the old ones or maybe we can also change the whole difficulty od areas with this.)

What do you think about this?

Ah yes world events.  AQ war effort was a big one, but I learned how to do the exact same style of event in trinity core.  This is possible, we can also have events trigger other events,  For example if Group A needs 1000 trees cut down, we make an event for that, then every time the quest is turned in the core remembers that.  Now when enough of the quests are turned in, then Event B would start up.

As for permanant world modifications, that might be a little more tricky.

Take a look on GW2. There, they tried this and it didn't work out well (in my opinion).

It's hard to balance an event, to make it rewarding enough that players do it and less rewarding enough to not attach the whole server to it.
Think about Halaa (which nobody cared about) and Thousendwinter (which cared to many people).

Also, WoW already did reworks of their old zones, thinking about lore. Sure, one big in Cataclysm, but also in Dustwallow marsh. World events came at least with new addons, sometimes with big raids/patches.

A major point, why there are so less of them, is: It needs a hell of work. Work, that will only be seen by the part of players, who are online during this time. Double work for half content.
That may be one point, why GW2's endgame doesn't expand.

So, think a lot about how to balance 1. the reward (mostly on repetetive events) and 2. the work (on unique events).

I thought more that it looks like normal quests but if the quests are done often enough some things change maybe just some little things nothing that is announced or rewarded (about the most of this "events" the player know nothing)

so the player does the quest like every other without know that something will change after enough ppl did the quest

for example if you have a npc who want to build a house and maybe the quest is done 20 times that then the house makes progress and maybe after 100 times the quest the hous is built and other quest will be aviable.

So i thought not about real events the real events that are known as events. events like AQ should only be a small piece of the cake.

All that Ideas are prtty good. But we cant do that to the whole world. We can do several spots with such events or developing zone sliek sushi wanted. But for now we need to focus on basic quest development if we encounter a situation where it fits good we can discuss it with the Tech-Team.
