Starting from scratch
« on: October 02, 2011, 01:08:52 pm »
I've been reading through all of the (very helpful!) tutorials and guides on this site and I'm a little confused as to how world building works.

Am I able to create a completely independent world space?
Am I able to remove all of the WoW world spaces?
How do I go about creating maps to aid navigation around these new world spaces?

Basically I want to create a smaller independent world and make sure that players do not have access to any WoW world space. Is this possible?

Thanks

I've look through what I thought was all of the tutorials available here, but didn't see anything about creating an independent world space. I've seen tutorials on adding islands etc.

Could you paste a link to the tutorial you mentioned?

Thanks

The tutorial I refer to is the one for creating maps.

A completely independent world would just require to have all existing files removed and adding a new world as described in some tutorial on creating an own continent / map / world.

If you create a patch and set the starting point of all races/classes to this map and have also no way back to the old maps you have what you want. You can set the starting point in you server DB.

Great, thanks for the tips.

The thread in question for building an independent instance (I think) can be found here:

Hope this helps someone in the future!

You can also download the empty starting instance from the resources.

The tutorial isn't connected to any wow version directly.
To the dbc i may quote from the tutorial:

Quote
NOTE: To asure that it will work, use the newest map.dbc. You can find that one in the patch-enUS-x.MPQ. Choose again the mpq with the highest value for x.Just use the locale.MPQ if there are no patch-enUS-x.MPQ files.
