Now a few words about each type.

Scholozar style mountains 2. (Hard to create)

Durotar cliffs. (Easy)

Barrens style mountains. (Hard to texture)

Tanaris style mountains.

Silitus style mountains.

I recently wrote an article about WoW mountains, but it's written in french and I don't have the motivation to translate it all.
( http://allifeur-mapping.blogspot.fr/201 ... s-wow.html Here is the link, but it will be useless if you can't understand french )

I would like to say that there is not only one "Northrend style mountains", in fact, there are a lot of different kinds of mountains within Northrend itself.

About Gilneas Style : I tried to make one mountain like that, but we're currently missing the tool on Noggit that could allow us to make it. We would need a flattener tool which could define a degree and a direction. Without this tool, it takes a ridiculous amount of time.
Plus, you'll have to work every mountain with a color gradient : The lower part has to be dark, and the upper part has to be "white"

You should add several kinds of mountains tutorial, like Howling Fjord's mountains, Grizzlyhills mountains, etc... Or even Mop and Cataclysm's styles of mountains.  :D

Grmbl, I want it !

And about your durotar mountains, they are still too clean. If you look closer at Durotar, you'll see that there are some details that you have forgotten, like some dirt at some points. Someone who doesn't care about details would believe that those mountains are from Durotar, but they are not perfect yet for me.

This is not in SDL1.3. There is only added speed for flatten/blure.But its an good idea.
Please Allifeur add this to the bug traker as a feature request so we can add it in an upcomming version.

Here is a custom style i developed over time)

Its a mountain style that Nekatus requested me to make a tutorial for.

first step, make cliffs.
first raise the ground with linear brush)

I highly advertise to use "show mapcontour infos"

use flatten/blur on linear mode, i used brush speed 5.15.

next step,
pick raise ground/linear i don't really care for the speed, depends on the scale.
raise the ground just like you would normally, think twice before raising though, you don't want two rocks next to the other, having the same angle.

and we move on, use flatten/blur/linear to flatten the top, have it hill down to one side by linear brushing downwards.

now paint it with a rock texure, don't care for detail YET, just paint it, make sure pressure is not above 40, that will ruin it, I used 35 here.

now lower the opacity to maybe 50%, paint the sides and top, have a line between this,

Now pick a lighter texture, and paint it between the rocks, make sure theres still a bit of dirt, base texture between the new texture and the rock texure.
in my case i used lava.

more coming soon.
