Issues with Noggit texturing
« on: August 21, 2015, 01:55:09 pm »
First of, I wasn't sure where to post this. If this is the wrong section, feel free to let me know and to move this.

Anyways, here is my issue.
When I retexture something with Noggit, two things happen in game (only when I test the patch ingame, this doesn't show on Noggit.)

- The color of the texture may change drastically sometimes.

The very bright part is the same color as the "pathway" on the left, but somehow it shows very differently.
Also as you can see, there are the ugly lines from the chunks that show for some reason.

- The first texture I used on the chunk shows up ingame, thus drawing lines.
(you willl understand better with this screenshot.)

Edit : Another illustration of the random colour changes.

Same screenshot, but ingame

If you know how to fix this, I would gladly hear it ;)

Do that operation with previous version of Noggit, 1.2 for instance.

I honestly can't vouch for this process, but it has apparently worked.

This is a direct quote from Skarn after I messaged him about resolving this issue with the "lines".

Quote

[20-June-2015 5:14:07 AM] Skarn: Paint some small circles with proper hardness in the places where chunks cross
[20-June-2015 5:14:19 AM] Skarn: and never change hardness params

Isn't that going to mess up my texturing? I mean it gives me way less freedom if I understood clearly what he's suggesting (i'm french so english isn't flawless :( )

You're basically redoing the texturing along the lines if I understand Skarn correctly. It should work since my buddy managed to follow Skarn's advice and get it fixed.

Just save without showing lines in Noggit.

It is funny. Becaus the rendering of lines is just a render option and realy dont handle anything during saving.
If then it is just that you saved it a second time. The lines problem also onyl accure on Blizzard adts as fare I know.
I never had them on any map.

"Just save without showing lines in Noggit" - WTH has everyone with this? This just can't help anything...

Just resave your ADTs in Noggit again and lines around chunk boarders will disappear. I have been having this bug for years, it always appears only after first save after painting textures. Second save of ADT always fixed it. Just be careful, always restart Noggit before saving a map for 2nd time to avoid duplications of models.

About your 2nd problem, that is caused by fact that you have applied textures in another order on different chunks. There is a big difference between painting dirt over grass and painting grass over dirt, if your order of textures is like "dirt on bottom, grass on top". There is a big difference between painting texture A on texture B and between "reshowing" texture B which is, technically, under texture A.

Make fixed order of textures and always keep it. For me it is always dirt, stone and/or road, base grass, grass 2/flowers/whatever. I never paint on any chunk grass before stone and road textures were applied there.

I will have to try everything you suggested, but thanks a lot to all those who took time to reply and help with this issue, it is much appreciated.

However, I did not understand what you mean by "resave your ADT" (beginner here, much noob), so could you like quickly explain to me how to do this, or send a link to a tutorial?

Anyways, thanks a lot everyone, I'll keep you updated on how things go.

viewtopic.php?f=48&t=7624&hilit=adt+lines

Try Mjollnas tip in this topic.

BTW. I used the search to find this topic. As even we don´t have all topics in head we had here :)

Else Try to delete and recreate all texture layers.

wiki/index.php5?title=Noggit_user_manual#Texture_paint

And try to do it in right order.

By resaving I mean simply opening that map in Noggit again, do whatever edits (just one click with one tool, little move with some model, whatever) to mark corrupted ADTs as "edited" (can be checked in map shown by M key) and save.

Tried everything, none of the proposed solution worked.

Will probably have to restart everything on a fully created ADT.
I was told to create one to avoid possbile issues, but i'm terrible and didn't manage to x)

Anyways, thanks everyone for trying to help, hopefully this post will help other modders.
