[QUESTION] Similar program to MDLVIS?
« on: June 26, 2014, 05:37:53 pm »
I'm wondering if there is other program like MDLVIS or other way to make custom animations to m2?

For me, MDLVIS is very hard to use and only works with TBC models.

Would be amazing to create m2 animations with Blender but maybe I'm dreaming too much, is that possible?

You can always use Blender or 3D Studio Max to make your own animations, then export the model as MDX with NeoDex (http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/mode ... ax-115767/) or similar plugins and convert it to m2 with mdxtom2.

The only program that can convert to M2 Files with cusom animations is MDXTOM2, so I'd guess MDLVIS is your only way.

If NeoDex can export mdx I can use 3ds max to make animations, then export as mdx with NeoDex and finally use MDXTOM2, isn't it?

Sigh... I can't get NeoDex working properly (export gives me errors), and MDLVIS is crashing when trying to attach vertex to bones in both versions english and russian...

I'm using Windows 7 64 bits, can anyone who made a custom animated model with MDLVIS share his operating system and MDLVIS version?

NeoDex doesn't work properly with some 3ds max versions. I recommend you to use 3Ds Max 8 (that's the one i use and works perfectly. With 3ds max 2010 and 2012 sometimes crashes. It doesn't work with 2013 and 2014).
MDLVIS works in all Windows versions (32 and 64 bits). You are probably doing something wrong or editing a model without bones (or exported directly from wowmodelviewer).

Inico, could you write a really quick step by step how you do animations in 3dsmax and export the model into working for mdxtom2? :P In my tutorial it would require copy-pasting animation-structure data in .mdl to a .mdl file that has been cleansed from corruption so it works in mdxtom2 :P

Ok, after failing with NeoDex I finally managed to make a custom animation from a custom model with MDLVIS.
I don't know what I did, I think it was the 'Optimization' option, after using it my model didn't crash when boning.

So this is what I did:
1. Start with Blender 2.68 (which is my favourite 3D program for the moment)
2. Export to .obj .3ds or other format supported by Milkshape 3D
3. Open the exported model with Milkshape 3D
4. Export to MDX using Milkshape mdx export plugin (can't find export plugin for Blender)
5. Open with MDLVIS and start animating
6. Use MDXtoM2 and done

This is the only Milkshape MDX export plugin that worked for me:

EDIT: Seems that this plugin supports bones and animations so you could make rigging animation using Milkshape and not MDLVIS. Ironically, but, I'm getting used to MDLVIS and I think I will stay with it  :D

So when exporting from Milkshape it can pass through MDXTOM2 directly?

Yes but no. MDXtoM2 lazy will crash, normal will make .m2 and .skin but will be invisible (at least in my case).

You will have to open the Milkshaped .mdx with MDLVIS anyway for at least set Visibility On. Then you will be able to use MDXtoM2 lazy as files saved from MDLVIS won't crash it.

Phucko thats maybe the reason :D

i never converted model by Milkshape so Lazy never worked ?

i strictly prefer

-MdlxConv
-MDXtoM2
-Obj and 3dsToMdxConverter

that all i need ... i totaly hate milkshape
