Post by: darkvexen on May 25, 2015, 04:44:21 pm

I can tell you what I use when I search for an spell .m2
open wowmodelviewer and load mop and search for warlock
and then you see all the warlock spells the fell and the shadow
and goodluck my friend

and if you want all the list file open all the patches in mop and get the list file file
and open it with notepad++ and select all the lines with warlock in it and copy it
to a new page and again select all the lines but this time not warlock but fel
and now you have the listfile you want extract the files

What does it show then ? Things like File00042000.xxx ?
That means you need the listfile which will give the "order" from the chaos that reigns in CASC files. Only then you shall extract the spells.

yeah i went back and looked at it. My current listfile only has about half the files listed, then the rest are like "5437439753926982629869". So anyone got a updated WoD listfile they mind handing me? :)

One such listfile for WoW:WoD is provided with CascLib in CascLib/listfile/listfile-wow6.txt.

These are textures (blp files)... look for the m2 files, which could be in another directory.

Yes they are. You can edit the BC m2 of the spell with an Hex editor (010 editor for example) and at the end of the file there is the list of the textures. Alternatively, just extract the m2+the textures with Burning Crusade WoW Model Viewer but I don't know if it was possible.

Note that if the spell model changed (and it's probably the case for some spells as they added fancy effects in each expansion) they might have changed the UV-map so with a new texture the effect (let's say, a green ball) might be at the wrong place. Just check the textures to see if they look the same and otherwise edit them (BLP2PNG is your friend).

If you want the fancy new effects, then you need to convert the model which is hard to do.

Sometimes there are Non green spells beacuse Lizzard Entertaiment is saving space so he did one spell and thru DBc for spell visual he is just changing color its thru RGB colorer that is handled in some columb in dbcs

As you can see nColor is 0, that means the color is not defined "as is" in the model, but through texture and maybe DBC editing. You don't need to edit in Hex the model at all. You can still view the textures through it, though. Just search for the ascii string ".blp". Then you go back in the archive explorer and you extract the said textures, convert them and you'll see how they are (green, red, rainbowy..)

What Alastor means is that sometimes Blizzard wants to recolor a big Red fireball, they won't bother changing these red textures. They use DBC to apply a filter on them in some cases, forcing them to be green.
But if you see the blp textures are green then that's probably not the case and you don't need to think about it.
