Title: [Problem] Square problem
Post by: Evan on September 08, 2014, 04:43:43 pm
So... Yeah, it's me again.

Hello,

The problem is a bit strange (to me) - everything looks okay in noggit, making a mpq patch, getting in game, aaand... http://vpx.pl/i/2014/09/08/WoWScrnShot_ ... 160814.jpg (http://vpx.pl/i/2014/09/08/WoWScrnShot_090814_160814.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) <- This shit happens. It changed textures and made those squares.

I'm 100% newbie so... Don't be cruel :|

I had this problem when i was using noggit 1.2 but if you press I the brush will change from 1 to 2 and you wont see those lines ingame. If you are using the 1.3 version just press F7 to see the lines and paint them again, it worked for me.

So, well. Noggit 1.3 won't open the area of editing and a trick with I doesn't work. However, there's another problem - basic texture just changed itself from Stormwind alike brick to rock. :(

What's more - here's the screen of this bullshit, seems like some textures don't even exist :|

Noggit 1.2, editing dalaran crater and areas around it

About the squares, you simply have to save without showing the lines on Noggit.  ;)

If the lines are displayed or not dont change save in any kind.

I have this bug on all my ADTs, I use copies of QA_DVD ADTs. That isn't important at all. Solution for these squares is siple - open map in Noggit again, save it again, put it into patch again and now it should be OK.

Sudden swap of textures? Strange, did they swap in noggit too? If it is so, just use texture swapper and get there old texture.

Green textures mean that you don't have these textures in patches OR that you have only one part of them. Most of textures (or all, I have to admint, I am not very familiar with terrain textures) are made of 2 BLPs. Its quite possible that you don't have one of them in MPQ, so they do work in noggit, bu don't actually work ingame. Use another textures. I suppose you didn't try to take some textures from Cata/MoP/WoD, so thats the only one solution I have for you here.

And as axel said - modifying blizzlike ADTs is quite bad idea. It leads to dozens of bugs, WoW Errors etc. More experienced devs can deal with most of them, but for beginner its just much easier to start with some custom made map (or try to do something in for instance QA_DVD I mentioned).

Oh, well. Sure, the new and clear map would be much better and easier idea to deal with bugs, but...

Hey, I'm creating a map for RP server and it is much easier (and faster) not to make it from scratch, just because it has mountains, lakes et cetera, also a new continent gives me this shit: http://vpx.pl/i/2014/09/09/Przechwytywanie.png (http://vpx.pl/i/2014/09/09/Przechwytywanie.png" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) (and its weight is about 500 mb)

No. No. No. No.

There is NO difference between "blizzard" and "custom" ADTs. I always was using "blizzard" ADTs and never had a problem.

You take me wrong. Blizzard ADTs have water, ground effects and such thing which can get buggy after saving in Noggit. That was the whole point.

Evan: I am making maps for RP servers for 2 years now and remaking Arathi Highlands was the worse job I have ever had to do.

I guess so - but, well, making players to download 500+ mb is not the best idea I think (this 500 mb is
25 - 40 and 25 - 40 adts, so... it's a bit small for forest, kingdom and a part of ocean + farmer area)

Once more - every texture I take cause the "green" problem or just swapping into other. :|

It's sick and tiring.

500 MB is nothing compared to most custom servers of 2-6 GB of patches.

P.S

Make sure you're compressing your archive to make it smaller.

Yep, I think you don't Compact your archive. Its in Operations menu in MPQEditor. My patch with ADT files contains 42 ADTs and has only 10,5MB size, so... Compact, compact, compact :D. My full map with 98 ADTs has 22MB (without retexturing, custom models, models from Cata/MoP... ADTs and WDT only).

EDIT: Post here names of some textures you have problem with (the full paths to them would be the best).

I know how to fix this bug. I can tell you if it is still required.

It's works for me:

1. Open noggit
2. Save all again
3. Pray and play

This is the fix right here.  This happens to me in 1.2 when I save while showing the grid lines.  If I save without the grid lines off, then the error doesn't happen.

[Edit] The last sentence should read: "If I save with the grid lines off,...".

I have this bug when working with my ADTs, which are all copies of QA_DVD ADTs, just copied, renamed and offset-fixed. But I think I never enountered this bug in anwhere else than on my maps (at least as far as I can remember), so maybe it has something to do with those QA_DVD ADTs, or maybe my admin mode (sorry Steff, still using it :D)... Some specific, unique thing in structure/flags etc.? I know nothing about this stuff, just looking for possibilities.

no, no, no. It is just an off-by-one error.

Find the exact position likely in painting, if grid is up, add 1.
