Title: Is it just me?
Post by: Krang Stonehoof on June 18, 2014, 06:18:27 pm
Is it just me or Blizzard is gettin' bad at texturing?

It looks just horrible.

To me it looks like the terrain in that screenshot is using the low-resolution variants of its textures.

No, it's not that it is bad, it is that Blizzard follows a more recent texturing logic since they can use 6 textures per chunk. The idea is about not mixing textures too much so that the textures could be clear for players without being totaly mixed up because of another texture. Moreover textures quality is improving, so they are less annoying when they are alone.

This leads to the use of a stronger pressure at painting, but with often lower radius, or the use of several textures that look alike.

You should also remember that this zone is in a big part inspired from Great Canyon, an aera with a lot of geometrical shapes which would be mistaken as a bad level design if it was seen ingame.
