Hi, Modcraftians!
I recently found myself with a burning interest in getting started with modding WoD. Turns out that this was, at least to me, significantly more complicated than I had envisioned.
I managed to get a hold of a full client of WoD 6.2.4, provided via mega.nz in a post on this very site. After that, I promptly headed over to the venerable Mr. DK's series of tutorials on how to get started. Now, maybe I'm a complete simpleton, but I've spent a respectable chunk of this weekend getting it to work as he describes it in his posts, without success. Clearly, with the brain, tools, and instructions at my disposal, I've been unable to make any true headway.
So, before I tear my hair out in frustration, I thought to reach out to the Modcraft community. Hopefully, someone reading this knows what to do, and hopefully, that person feels inclined to share his/her insight with me!
Bottom line:
With access to a full client of WoD 6.2.4:
- What tools will I need? (As of now, 05/02/2018)
- How do I go about using these programs to get it all working properly?
I am so excited about getting this to work, and I've got some amazing ideas I want to set in motion!

What part of the tutorials didn’t work?
What do you want to achieve?

What part of the tutorials didn’t work?
What do you want to achieve?
1. Well, I'm not entirely sure. I had difficulties with several of the steps. When I got to the point where I was supposed to start up the bnet- and worldserver.exe's, they crashed immediately on startup. Based on what I'd read from the guide, and on what results I'd been getting, I couldn't really tell what the problem was.
2. I want to set up a moddable private server for WoD 6.2.4 so I can start messing around with class specializations, making new ones, altering, etc.

So you have problems with this tutorial part?

What windows do you use. Is it 64 bit?

Correct. Although, that was just the first hardline obstacle I encountered, as in, a point where I just couldn't find a way to make it work. I don't know if it's complaining because something from earlier in the process wasn't done correctly.
Yes, 64-bit, Windows 10.

No this tutorial part works fully seperated from the rest.
Did you check if there are logfiles inside the TrinityCore folder that contains more informations?
-
Well, I don't have a TrinityCore folder, unless it's called something else when following Mr. DK's tutorial. If it's the same thing as the core WoD client, I do have a folder called Logs, but nothing in there seems to tell me anything more.
-
I'll give a rundown of my process:
- Downloaded all files linked at the start. Couldn't use the link for OpenSSL 10.2L,
had to google for the source. Couldn't find 10.2L so used 10.2J instead. Hopefully, that's not an issue? - Installed HeidiSQL, no problems. Installed MySQL, some trouble, until I realised I only needed the Server. No installation for OpenSSL, but put the unzipped folder into Tools in my Modding folder.
- Opened a new connection in HeidiSQL, started server.sql in DK's WoD Server-folder, new files popped up in the HeidiSQL-connection. (As seen attached)
- Changed lines in conf-files, both my own user and password, as I chose my own in MySQL-installation, and the other lines stated in the tutorial.
- Put extraction-folder content in Client-folder, ran .bat-file and chose only Map extraction. dbc and maps-folders popped up. Copied them over to the WoD Server-folder supplied by Mr. DK
- Trying to start worldserver- and bnetserver.exe's, but they both crash on startup.
And that's it! Haven't gotten past this point. Hope this clears any unknowns up!

The Wod Server from DKs tutorial is a Trinity Core.
No you need an 1.0.x Version in 64 bit.
Try this:
http://slproweb.com/download/Win64OpenSSL-1_0_2n.exe (http://slproweb.com/download/Win64OpenSSL-1_0_2n.exe)

Wow, I realize now that I misread the guide. It clearly says 1.0.2, but I read 10.2 :'( That's silly!
Thanks, Steff! :)
Although, I've now seemed to stumble on another problem.
After switching out OpenSSL, the server.exe's start without a hitch, and I was able to create an account and set gmlevel. But now, when trying to use the WoW.exe's, it crashes, giving the error attached. I used the patched WoW.exe's from Mr. DK's guide and restarted the server.exe's.

I think your client is corrupted. As it can´t read a file from casc.
Best try to download the client again.
And use a download manager like JDownloader2 for this task!
This error has nothing to do with the server.
-
Hmm, might be an issue. I haven't been able to find another full WoD 6.2.4 client than the mega.nz one on this site. I did download that with the megasync app, though. Would that suffice?
Also, just to clarify, when you say "download the client again", should I also redo all the client-steps of the guide as well?
-
What locale did you select on startup? This client only contains german and english as far as I recall.

First time I started up the WoW-64.exe I selected English from that Language Setting-popup!
-
I guess its due to a damaged Client then.
-
Just download DKs client again. I use JDownloader2 for this. Works fine.

TLDR: have you tried the 6.24 client hosted on Google Drive that can be found here on the forum? :)
I mean this one here: http://www.modcraft.io/index.php?topic=11332.0
I have been having issues finding a working 6.24 client as well.
I downloaded the Mega 6.24 client found here on the forum (this one: https://mega.nz/#F!nZ5TFQyT!Lp7MRsGtnPtltprS7jAnhg) through the MEGA desktop app (it should be reliable as Jdownloader to my knowledge), but it turned out to be corrupted because the CASC Explorer is not able to open any storage. :(
Then I found another 6.24 client online and I downloaded it through Utorrernt, but even that one seem to have problems, as CASC Explorer is not able to open any storage on this one too. :(
EDIT:
I managed to download the Google Drive WoD 6.2.4 Build using JDonwloader and I can confirm that it works fine, so give it a shot. :D
