Is it possible to have phased zones?
For example a zone where you wash upon a beach from a shipwreck, and over time your small camp of survivors turns into a town and then into a small city. Is phasing possible?

>= cata

Well, yeah, proper way of doing that starts from Cata+ but there are hacky ways to do it serverside on 3.3.5a too, I guess.
-
For 3.3.5a, it would only be able to be done through objects and scripting. Cata+ would allow terrain changes as well. I have no knowledge on how phasing works scripting wise though for zones, so I am of no help with that.
-
You guys think its possible with custom patches yeah?
-
On WotLK, you can always copy-paste zone (and its gob and NPC spawn as well if you want to) end edit it a little bit. Its fairly easy to teleport player from one to another when he enters some place or finishes some quest. While its not phasing and is a little bit hacky, in the end it makes no difference for players and tbh, I find editing and spawning multiple maps easier than doing so with some kind of phased map. Its up to you what you choose.

I agree with the other guy, Copying the zone twice over and then making them instances seems to be a fun way to do it.
Otherwise you have to set specific npcs and objects to specific phases and phase the player as they quest through it via C++.

Only problem than copy-pastying maps is that you can only do it in zones with not too many ADTs, otherwise your custom patch will be too heavy.

Too bad, in Wod we have a special column in map.dbc for (copy paste ) an existing map in a empty map 8-)
