Title: [SOLVED] Noggit Causing System Instability
Post by: matija168 on July 13, 2015, 01:24:44 am
This isn't really a bug with Noggit itself, but more of a tech support thread.

Ever since I installed an update to my graphics driver Noggit started to cause my laptop into being very unstable, as far as to only allow me 5 to 15 minutes of work, then crashing not only itself but the machine as a whole, causing it to just shut down out of the blue. I later reverted to an older version of the driver, but it the problem didn't go away.

I'm presently using a pretty outdated laptop with a GeForce 310M, but it worked perfectly well before the update.

The issue doesn't happen with any other application, only with Noggit.

Any help would be very appreciated, because I'm oblivious on how to fix this.

How hot does your laptop get before it shuts down? 10-15 minutes makes me think that maybe the fan died on your graphics card. Windows will shut itself down before overheating so that it can save your pc from permanent damage.

It's not too hot, and it works perfectly well with more demanding applications. I spend hours in an Europa Universalis campaign on weekends and it gets much hotter than when running Noggit, with nothing shutting down.

I'll try to open it up and clean it still, maybe it helps after all. The fan is working but it's not hard to assume it's pretty dusty given I didn't clean it up in a year.

I would suggest you reinstalling the operating system first. If you're using illegal windows and do not care about activation, you might try installing different versions and see how it works.

I had some similar issues with my old laptop, too.

Everything used to work perfectly, no overheating or other problems, but when I was launching League of Legends and get in-game, after a few minutes it was shutting down instantly. After getting it to a service they told me that the Graphic Card was damaged and I cannot do much about it, just to buy another laptop.

I would highly recommend to take it to a good service.

It turns out that after I reverted to an older version of the driver, some software which wasn't fully compatable with the older version and came with the new didn't go away, thus sometimes crashing my system.

By uninstalling everything I had related to GPU drivers then performing a fresh install in safemode, then applying physiX and other followup software I managed to fix it.

Thanks for the support, marking as solved.
