Gehenna - Starting area for the Fallen (Satyr)

The Basic Lore :
General:

The Fallen are an evil, demonic race, re-forged from the bodies of fallen heroes in Demalyr (Deh maul yur). With the power of the Fire of Saimon, life is able to return to the body, but we a single, corrupt intent...to kill all. With the recent attack on [world's name], the Fallen have grown much weaker due to their failed attempt. Seeing this as an opportunity, the living called upon the power of the [ancients, creators, titans, etc] to strike down the Fallen once and for all. However, they underestimated to power of King Saimon, the leader of the fallen. He has now appointed a select few of the Fallen (the player) to scout out the world above for a final invasion, while he stays to fend off attackers. They now have a simple mission: To destroy life entirely...but not without wrecking havoc first.

Origin:

The Fallen came to be thousands of years ago , when only humans existed on [world's name].They were created by King Saimon, who was trying to achieve immortality. What he found was immortality in its only form-death. He was tortured for days by demons never heard of, and imbued with terrible hatred, despair and power. As he spoke his last words, he cursed those who he hated to die a terrible death, much like himself. When he died, he was dragged through the ground, and his soul was torn apart and corrupted. Every bit of his remains were absorbed by those he cursed, which killed them all. They were summoned by the now-cursed King Saimon, who now ruled over Demalyr. King Saimon’s power is held within the fires of Demalyr. With all his emotions and destruction in the fire, it is capable of returning life to the dead, thus creating more Fallen. The only way to destroy Saimon is to extinguish the fires of Demalyr, which I said to release all his corruption into the world. No one knows what will happen then...

(Powers, in this case):

The Fallen are capable of massive destruction. Their power is fed by the anger and despair of others. They worship no one, except a little honor towards Jethax Harabat, and a bit rogue like. However, they must no work together in order to sustain Demalyr.

Appearance:

The Fallen look almost identical to as they did when they were living, with the exception of their bodies being corrupted by the Fire of Saimon. While they look similiar to as they did when alive, the have no knowledge of their previous life at all. All memory has been replaced with the desire to kill the living.

Man... I just love seeing updates about this project.

You can definately see that you guys know what you're doing and these new maps are really well done!
(I like The Drow Prison the most so far.)

I like the functionality of WoWGM.exe, especially the pathfinding rendering.

Looking forward for future updates :)

Great work buddy, you guys have made a lot of progress! Really like the idea of all the player characters being these sort of cursed heroes, reminds me of Dark Souls!

Thanks for all your replies, guys. Actually, we are working on the completely new races you have never seen before. Those lava models are designed for only one class. It's not a race. This class will be able to use this form while using special abilities like warlock in the demon form. ;) But we're not sure yet. Anyway, we're going to make something interesting.

Actually, it's really hard to say now. Of course, it's a very little part of our progress that we showed off in this thread. But it's still not enough for alpha or any other testing. However, we're making progress. So, you just have to wait.

I'm still not a big fan of your project yet because the creation of your maps is still too dependant of Blizzard's works.
Despite of a great work on atmosphere, there are only a few of true texture work, it's almost only object spawning and skybox work. The canyon is awesome, but it was made from Blizzard's emerald dream, I can't applaud it fully. The Thor'zain pass mainly exist because of the M2 ground, when it came to personal ground texturing, my eyes started to burn (cf here : http://i.imgur.com/XLUnOhN.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/XLUnOhN.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) )

About Bolvar's texture on several races, please, please, change those women textures, those body-builded ladies are true pain for my sense of beauty. Though, if you will was to make a strong lady without sexism, then go on, you have an excuse that I shall accept despite the terrible aspect of it.

Gehenna's is mainly dependant of Firelands. Plus, some choices of objects are still weird.
==> http://i.imgur.com/IUFcWRx.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/IUFcWRx.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) Come on, wood ? :O

About the Drow Prison, I only see Ahn'kahet dephts used as a background zone, in which you roughly added zangdar M2s, rocks, qiraji ruins and thorns. This aera itself is a reuse of Shadowmoon valley textures by Blizzard, only turning green lava to red. And this is not honest to post landscapes as if it was your creation when it's not, like there : http://i.imgur.com/bUY55OR.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/bUY55OR.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

I actually respect more the last work, about the Orc Starting Zone, even if it's the ugliest. At least, I can see that you're starting to see what it is truly to have to texture an aera.

Ah, and my apology for being so rude. I'm still waiting to see that project progress more. It wouldn't be fun if there weren't someone telling he doesn't like the result

What does this have to do with anything? It's completely fine to use existing assets. We don't have to be elitist and only use our own work.

I don't say this is bad, I just say this is not enough for me to like it.
I just dislike the fact of reusing too much Blizzard's base : people will think the whole thing was made by them. It's like taking a paint, changing the colors, adding a mustach and claim it's your. That's how I see it.

Though the fact of reworking on Blizzard's map isn't bad itself, I do it sometimes, but this is not impressive if you only do that. I never make a show off for that kind of works.

Let's agree that you've not made a 100% custom piece of content yet yourself.

E.g Your own texture files, your own models, and your own landscapes.

And let's not haste into conclusion, by saying that the very files you've built on. are Blizzard's as well.

I was once a hypocrite as well, and it never ends well for a hypocrite.
Title: Re: [SHOWOFF] Skarn - Some Progress So Far

Sorry Skarn to keep posting here, but I must defend myself.

Though I do not claim myself of doing something 100% custom. I do not claim the fact of making objects as much as an Interior designer will not say that he's the furniture manufacturer or the structure architect. Though, what I watch here is not the quality of the objects, but the choice and the way that the level designer decided to follow.

If you think I'm saying that my base has nothing to do with Blizzard's work, then it means you got all my words wrong : It's because I'm conscient of it that I don't want to miss-use it.

I'm actually quite bad at creating individual objects in 3D, what I like is assembling things in order to create a whole system

Gardeners never invented the flower, some can make hybrids (like we make reskins..) but there are still inventivity in their work in the choice of flowers and the way they put them. That's the same thing here.
So please, don't call me an hypocrit, because I know that what I make is dependant of Blizzard too, and that's also why I dislike a lot of my works.

That's all I will reply. If you want to reply again, please, let's make a new post.

Allifeur,
i totally agree with you but can you say that it is wrong since blizzard will never use this maps?
or am i wrong?
don't we give them credit for it by using the maps?
well,
what about alpha mapping?
i flamed about it as well at start,
and we have to admit every great "texturer"
uses alpha maps, you may dig into maps of others and see its ALL alpha mapped,
well most of it.

btw,
Allifeur not to be a dick, but you don't have to say you don't like it enough for over 12 times, just saying mate.
still,
you said it in a very nice way ;)

Well as soon as Alifeur stops spending his days commenting on something that is not 100% custom built, he may just have time to build something 100% custom himself.

Sorry but you cannot rip into this, your best bet would be to offer advice as oppose to trying to find minor issues. As is mentioned in our portfolio, Skarn uses world of warcraft as a game engine in order to create a world in which we can express our lore. We are not trying to re-build anything, but we will. Everything we build is and will be unique, whether we use our own models or not. We currently lack people who have the appropriate skills for doing the jobs you specify, and when we get one you can feel free to comment. Until then please keep it to advice/constructive criticism and maybe some respect if needed - not stupid nit-picks.

BTW im not having a go at you, just as you say - defending myself. Touche.

Take Care Alifeur, there will always be a spot for you here if you want it.

Extremely impressive work, especially on the canyons. I do think that The Drow Prison is a bit busy, but that just comes down to my personal minimalist tastes :P
