Title: [SHOWOFF] Standalone WMO parts - Stormwind sliced.
Post by: Skarn on March 23, 2014, 04:07:14 pm
Hello, Modcraft.
Today I was planning the way I will build a city for my project. It's obvious that you need some custom models to build something really impressive and not wow-like. However, it's really hard to make a lot of custom models which are necessary for a city. So, I decided to mix them with some original stuff. A lot of people asked me if it's possible to use parts of WMOs in their worldbuilds. Here you can see the result of my work. All the models work fine in the game without any collision or graphical problems.

Big thanks to Gamh for his awesome MirrorMachine. It would be impossible to make this without it.

I also don't see any reason for keeping these models private because they're not made by me actually. So, I will release a big package soon when I'm done with the whole Stormwind. The release will contain towers, gates, ladders, houses, walls and everything that is possible to detach.  Furthermore, I am not going to stop on Stormwind. There are also a lot of models that I would like to cut into pieces.    So, you just have to wait for the release. Please tell me your opinion about such things. You can also ask me to detach some models for you in the comments below. Happy wow modding, everyone.  ;)

Cool  job man

Those models could be really usable by many of us. I am actually similar  thing with  naxx, cutting it to separated rooms, and splitting deadmines ( the barn and silo will be great warehouse).

Great work buddy and a good proof of concept. There are a lot of cool building objects locked way in .wmos, so this project should yield some cool results!

Yes, but the process is not that fast because sometimes you have to edit geometry, fix UV maps and so on. The bottom of the first tower was not finished by blizzard, but I added some missing sides.

Guys, for a fater release I need a cmd tool that will export a text file from the wmo with the treepath of all the textures used in the model. It will make the work 2 times faster. If somebody is able to do this, please make this small tool ;)

Awesome! Could you do the same with Silvermoon?
It has several really cool buildings that would be nice to have as a standalone.

Yes, sure. Take some pictures of models you want and I'll do them if it's possible.

I can but I'm not inetersted in elven buildings from WoW. So, if you need something particular, please take a pic of the model you want to detach from there. I also have the full Darnass already done but it is converted a bit badly and I'am too lazy to reconvert it and upload here.  :)

Very Nice, I'm really looking forward to this as I'm planning to build a city as well, and also planned to cut out some parts of Stormwind, so now I just have to wait for the release and can look for other preparations. I'd love to see the Cathedral standalone. Good work, can't wait to get my hands on that =)

When you release this, could you send me an email at valkryst@valkryst.com? We could definitely use the buildings in the first two screenshots in our current worldbuild.

There's not all SW in skitis patch, but there's already a lot done.

Turned out those models were broken, but I've recently revisited the idea and successfully managed to rip and retexture the models. I'm willing to finish it up if people are still looking for this sort of thing.

Good job!
But how do you convert them? I mean, do you even have to convert? I have lots of gameobjects which are linked straight to the .wmo files and it works perfectly. Im now working on placing a Dalaran go in Western Kingdoms)

I was just wondering if something like that would be possible. Wanted to extract some Darnassus buildings.
Any chance you are going to make a tutorial for this process?

If you wanted to cut some part of wmos such as 3.3.5 stormwind where most of objects arestored in one wmo group then select linked(ctrl+L) will be really helpful.
