Actually I pretty much hate these WIP threads but now I'm gonna do one. My first [WIP] thread ever, but the subject definitly deserves it.
Maybe some of you guys know this monster as a Magic the Gathering card (of the same name), and that's pretty much because I think most MtG artwork and ideas are awesome and try to model them from time to time.
This is the first npc/character model I've ever done off a MtG card, the other models were mostly architecture or items. Actually, this is my first monster model ever and it might still fail since I suck at texturing, but Eluo wanted to try doing the texture anyways, so here it is, the Frenetic Raptor:

That's about where I am right now as I'm posting this thread. About 3-4 hours of work, at least there's only the feet to go and then I can go ahead an unwrap.

Looks very good.
I hope you're texturing is as good =)

Sadly I don't think so, but since it's my first monster I'll just give it a try. Maybe it turns out better than expected.
This model is quite "trying out new things". I used a modelling technique I never used before, never did a non-human organic model before plus I'll be going for a render-to-texture base using several light sources to simulate color paint, maybe that'll give me a kickstart for texturing.
Concerning the above picture:
The model is finished now (except the planes for the scales on his back etc, but that's a piece of cake and will be added as soon as the UVs are 100% done so I can mirror it without having more work afterwards), but the UVs aren't yet fully done. Yeah I know, fucking good UV mapping, as always :P but I'm not happy with some minor stretching on some parts of the model, so I'll work on that a little more.
Once I'm done with that I'll probably continue on with rigging and animating while Eluo goes for the texture.

I like, I hope, the animation will look also as good like this.

Looks promising so far. Please show us some renders from different angles ;)
The pose you chose seems kinda odd to me (atleast for the rigging process later on? - i like to have straight spines).
Good luck with the work to be done, esp the texturing - atm texturing is my most favourite part of the work on a 3d model... next to the modeling process it self... looks like ill do this tutorial soon btw :P
Keep it up!

Modelling and Unwrapping now 100% finished:

I just realized I forgot to unhide the teeth-planes, but that doesn't do much for the screenshots, so I'll just leave them like this ;)
Now we're in for some skinning!
@zax: I totally HAET texturing, at least apart from architecture. But I'll give it a try and so will Eluo, we'll see how that turns out.
The pose is quite bad, I know, but I couldn't be bothered to alter the concept art any more so I just hope there won't be too much texture stretching :usad:

EDIT: the model is now fully rigged and skinned! Now I'm heading for the animations itself!

omg this is fantastic :D keep it up!

Great model ... Love the detail.

After one day of hard work the animations are now finally finished, the raptor will have 5 of them:
Stand, Walk, Run, Attack and Death. Maybe I will add one or two later on, but that's quite unlikely since the model is meant for demonstrating purposes and in order to improve my own skills (I've learned quite a huge amount of stuff doing the model).
I won't show the animations yet since there will be a video of them once it's finished anyways.
I'm just waiting for Eluo to finish the texture and then I'll convert it. I'll just have to hope it works the first time. Or at least on the second try :uok:

This creature has always been one of my favorite out of MTG. You did an excellent job with the wire frame and plane work.
