Title: Noggit for iPad.
Post by: schlumpf on November 21, 2010, 05:31:46 pm
I guess, its time for something new and innovative and great. Something  nobody would have expected.

I have started bringing Noggit on the iPad, and maybe later other iOS  devices. But as of the limited display size, I guess, its probably  worthless on an iPhone, which is why I started for the iPad first.

I don't have an ETA yet, as its quite some work, porting it. But as of  now, I already have basic animation rendering and am able to paint the  basic UI. The menu is working therefore.

I will try to get more features in as soon as possible. I am currently  struggling with how to deal with movement. I guess I will do some  first-person-like movement with two joysticks.

Another problem is adding and saving data to the application. I might  provide some ability to not sync the full client onto the iPad as its  quite big. As of now, this also needs extracted data and can't handle  MPQs. For getting the data back from the iPad, there might be some  special folder accessible from iTunes or a mail / ftp / webDAV  interface.

For non-believers, that this is not on the iPad. Please excuse the bad  quality as well.

Is is that good as idea? i mean.. is worthing to install WoW on the Ipad even? :S
That doesn't seem so usefull, it's like "Noggit for Xbox360" cool job but... what's the point?
And the PC version barely works now (rev 120 works kinda for a miracle)

Sorry if i'm harsh but really... i can't get the point of that.

This is madness!

In a good way though :P, maybe I should get an iPad once you've finished it, so I've got something to do at school :).

It's very easy to bring an iPad along though, even though you could bring a laptop aswell ofcourse ;p.

Ask a developer "why do you do this" and he will say.
Because I can ;)

Its mostly because I'm pissed off by the model-editing community. Especially some people like MadameGrip did their job very well. You can more or less see this as my retirement from the model-editing scene.

Retirement? From what? There's never really been a real model editing scene, I mean just compare it with other modding scenes, this is just rubbish. This scene has never gotten over "kids building shit using buggy user-unfriendly tools"

True, though it seems to be rising lately, and having Schlumpf stop is like having the Dalai Lama retiring/dying without assigning a new one. In terms of speaking.

Then don't call it retirement. Call it getting the fuck away or whatever you want.

Hahaha, that sucks. Right when I decide to go back to the World Building scene Schlumpf decides to get the fudge out!

Schlumpf has contributed huge to wow modding and it is thanks to his work (and of course a few others like Steff, Tigurius, Glitchy, Cryect...) in freetime that we can now even have a community like this and we should never forget about that - I know I don't.
However there's nothing stopping us from getting up and starting to contribute like them too.
I guess if the community dies because of laziness it is just fair, that's how things work, and we can't blame the ones that sacrificed a lot of time hoping to keep it up.
So we can either whine about the fact that there soon might be noone doing stuff we could/should be doing ourselves or honor these people by continuing the work.
