Title: [WotLk] [QUESTION] Removed Part of the Ocean,Need Help.
Post by: Lydorender on January 13, 2017, 07:43:02 am
Hello,i'm still pretty new to all this.
So a few days ago i finally set up Noggit for my server.Decided to take baby steps and just smoothen out terrain and the like, nothing too advanced. However today i was messing with the echo isles and after i saved the changes and logged in a big part of the ocean around the isles was gone. The only thing different that i did besides using the "Smooth" tool, move 1 object slightly and copy and paste 1 troll building.

I could see in the distance the strait line where the ocean just ends, however i could still drown if i went under even if no water was showing. But the water just isn't there.
So i have two questions that i need help with.

1st,I'm assuming if i delete the last file from the patch folder the changes will be undone and i'l get the ocean back,BUT i want to check here before just in case.If that is so and if not how can i fix this ?

and 2nd How did i do that ?I'd really like to know so i don't do the same mistake in the future.

Thanks for any replies in advance.

1. Modding works like this.: There are blizzlike files in your client (in blizzlike MPQs) and then there are your files in your custom MPQs, which are either new or are just overwriting older, blizzlike ones. So sure, when you remove your custom MPQs/remove some files you have modified in them from them, you'll get blizzlike versions of those files back.

2. Older versions of Noggit (SDL 1.1 and older) were unable to save water (let alone edit it), which meant it was simply deleted on save.

What version of Noggit do you have?

Hello, thank you so much for the info.I'm using NoggitSDL1.2 so i can see that i fall into that category you mentioned. Not sure if i should find another version or something. For the time being i guess i just won't mess with stuff near water.
Thanks again :)

That version definitely can't save angled water surfaces. Use SDL 1.4 or new betas.

Well i got me SDL 1.4. and it can save water just fine, however now the game crashes when i go near the place i edited.Guess i'm just too stupid to use a program thousands of others use without problem.
Thanks for trying to help anyway.

FAQ can be your best friend.

Beta versions don't do this and even fix this bug when it occurs.
