[QUESTION] - Ogre HD - Race?
« on: July 25, 2015, 04:46:21 am »
Greetings,

Since I'm pretty new to modelling, I have a question, would it be possible to make the new Ogre from Warlords of Draenor a playable race? I mean, extracting the models and using the PhantomX tutorial.

I know there are some problems with Undeads & Draenei, I have no idea about tho, but never heard someone around here trying the new Ogre.

Thanks.

Yes. Supora was working on it.
You can make any creature in the game playable if you modify its uv and add the necessary geosets (like capes, boots, etc). The Draenor ogre model textures don't match with the character textures, they are totally different and require a full UV redesign, but yes, technically it's possible.

HERE you can find how to solve that problem.

Just a note if you were going to do it too, Supora did the UV wrong you will have to streach the textures to reach the bottom because then your clothes are going to be a little bit off if you don't.

My texture didn't reach the bottom just because I didn't re-uv the feets, hands and head.
BTW some tips on How-to:
1)Import you's m2i to blender
2)Delete all not needed geosets
3)*Optional* Divide body mesh to singular meshes like and delete one half of the model(which later been mirrored):
a)body and legs
b)hands
c)feets
d)head
4)Add second uv-map
5)Edit new uv-map to fit character model in all meshes
6)Join all edited meshes to one
7)Bake all the textures(you need to have edited uv-map as selected and original uv-map flagged as render)
8)If you done deletion of half of the model then apply modifier "Mirror". Then remake bone weight of the mirrored part to fit the skeleton)
9)Split your model to different meshes that represent wow meshes(Body, Pants, Boots, Wrist and others)
10)Add new geosetslike capes, eyeglows for DK, hairstyles, tabards(if original skeleton have bones for it)
11)Didn't know any other way on how to set new geosets as proper wow geosets then importing player model m2i then selecting our part first and player model second then join them and delete not needed parts of player model.
12)Export m2i and try your model in game.

Tip: you can use the 3Ds Max projection modifier to transfer uvs from a model to another and then bake the texture:

You need to make some small modifications before and after the process but it works.
