Title: [QUESTION] Texture sizes
Post by: thesixth on November 29, 2011, 12:57:33 am
Hello!
I have a little question arround texturing.
Vrykuls counts as a non-playable race according to the game engine. I see that the textures of the Vrykuls are at twice the resolution that the character-textures are. As far as my attempts goes, doubling up the resolution of the playable character-races makes them fail to load. Is there any way to increase the size of textures in wow ? (Not neccessarily only the character ones.) Can something be done via DBC-editing?

On player skins the texture needs to be in an indexed format and not RGB, this can be achieved in photoshop by opening your image and going to Image -> Mode -> Indexed Colour... -> Possibly changing any settings and then hitting 'Okay', this should fix the problem, also make sure the texture is in a square, I usually use 1024x1024 for mine but 256x256 or 512x512 work too, I would advise against going above 1024x1024, it works but it often means a huge file size for the image. I would say even 1024x1024 is too big.

Thanks for the reply!
So 1024x1024 will actually work then?
I thought the resolution was limited to the double size (512x512).

IMO the difference between 256x256 and 512x512 is huge.
I'm gonna check out wether 1024x1024 is worth the filesize :P
