Title: Introduction/About Me subforum
Post by: Dalroc on November 29, 2010, 11:59:09 pm
So, currently there is a "Recruitment"  subforum which is a great way to help people find projects to join and a great way for the projects to advertise themselves and look for people to join them.
But how about making a Introduction/About Me subforum where people introduce themselves and can show some of their work/list what kind of knowledge they can contribute with.
That way there would be a place to find what you need for your project, instead of the other way around, if you know what I mean?

Not everyone will be checking the recruitment forums and some might even not want to join a project, but can contribute with a model/area or something they have created previously or they might do just a weapon or something for the project instead of binding themselves to the whole thing too much.

We've discussed the introduction forum a few times now and we've always come to the conclusion that it's just a totally useless way of gathering useless posts.

Besides the fact that hobbies, age etc shouldn't matter when considering somebody for a project or similar, the amount and quality of work of a person should be the only thing that matters this is implemented already.

There are Showoff subforums for every possible category of modding, a person can create a new showoff thread about his/her weapon model, zone, music etc right from the start, I'm pretty sure there is no need for "Hey guys look at me I'm talking about stuff and not really doing anything".
Sort of like the principle: if you want to contribute, dont talk, do it.
After all that's what really matters in a modding community, right? We're no psychology forum where people share their feelings about the world (although there's still the offtopic forum  :ugly: )

Well I didn't mean as a "i liek 2 play computah n b wiv friindz" kind of introduction, more like a presentation with a portfolio of some sort. Just about things related to modding.
To get some kind of collection of information about the forum members instead of it all being spread around in the different showoff forums.

Did you know we do have a user-related gallery where everybody can upload the pictures they want?  ;) (which grows in upload maximum by the rank the user have achieved)

Although that doesn't work for the achievements of coders etc the logic of "active people know who's capable of doing what" still applies. Besides, great work can still be linked in the signature of a person.

Seeing as nobody (except me and zax, for experimenting reasons) has yet used the gallery system and there isn't a really great contribution going on (except maybe Eluo and -supporting my statement- everybody knows about his work) I have to stick with the conclusion that at this stage an introduction is totally useless, unless somebody points out giant advantages of such a forum.
