[QUESTION] Quick Question!
« on: May 28, 2014, 09:30:46 pm »
Hello all, im very sorry if this is the wrong section but i honestly had no clue where to ask this.

Basically.. I am trying to figure out which client version i can use, i keep seeing so many different thing's here on the forums i have probably read close to 70 topics and what i have gathered is...

3.3.5a is the most stable for the tools.....
And Cata is possible with bugs..
And MOP i have no clue..

Can anyone shed some light on this, i know that the models have been imported to work on 3.3.5a from cata and mop in a different topic. But, is it not possible to use the 4.x or 5.x client at all? Skyfire emu has a 5.4.8 server going at the moment, and a really stable 5.4.7 version repo.

Not that the server part even matters if the tool's don't work with that version at all i guess.. could someone with some experience give a quick rundown please so i know what client version i am allowed to start with. If cata is stable, id probably rather use it just for the more built in features.

=====================

Side Question 1 - Is it possible to add completely new UI elements and windows to the client (i think it was through the gluexml or something?) and if it is possible to add new "built in" windows to the interface.. i was always wondering if it is able to load web-pages while in game?

Such as a in-game window for forums or whatever someone may do lol. Plus if it does support web pages, i can do some hacky interface work arounds by just manipulating the db depending on what it is with a pretty web front lol.

=====================

Side Question 2 - In order to cut down on client size, did i read correctly that you can basically remove everything except the patch/resources you are only using therefore being able to cut it down to say.. 8GB instead of 16GB? I wonder what the smallest size is that someone has achieved? 1GB would be great lol...

In terms of using Noggit, you can use it to create builds for Cataclysm or Mists of Pandaria. But it will require a 3.3.5 client to work with. If you want to work with Cataclysm and Mists of Pandaria I can give you the follow tips/advice.

1. Create your land as you normally would.
2. If you want to edit/create WDT files, use GruulMe.
3. You do not need to convert/transfer any files to work with the 3.3.5 client, you just need them to work with Noggit and most post-wotlk M2s/WMO do without any problem. Some however, do crash Noggit and are unusable.
4. Use Mjollna's ADT converter, either for Cataclysm or Mists of Pandaria, depending on the client you want to work for.
5. DBCs seem to have gained/lost rows and columns in compared to WotLK. Not sure what changed, I don't work with DBCs much, most related to Area IDs and the sort seemed to have stayed mostly the same.
6. Serverside I have no clue.
7. Use the AllWater GUI (by Gretchin) for any Water, do NOT use the Noggit water function.

Example (Cataclysm client, using WoD models without any editing to the models). it was a quicky though:

Personally, I only started trying out the Cataclysm client for worldbuilding a week ago or so and I haven't tried much yet. Spend some time on simple test environments to see how it works, it's the best way to try.

How are you getting the DBC's to work on the new client version? Because if i save a map in Noggit.. it saves the DBC as well but in 3.3.5a format right? Or has nothing changed in the areatable/map format from 3.3.5a to 4.x or 5.x..

Im mainly just trying to figure out how people are loading it even with the file differences?

=====

Also, is there a unlocked wow.exe (to unlock the gluexml) for 4.x or 5.x

Don't run the "double_click_me.bat", just run "ADT Converter.jar". In that case it should run fine.

I'm not sure about the DBCs honestly. But I do know there's a modified wow.exe available. I couldn't find it right away but you should check OwnedCore for it.

I don't think WoW handles files with spaces in them very well. Try renaming it to "planet_land" rather than "planet land".

Or try putting it on an already existing map, just to see if the ADTs are working.

There is no problem with spaces at all. There never have been and there never will be. Use spaces as you like.
